Good effort! One of mine fell off and I haven't bothered to split the light and fix it again :(

What did you use to bond them to the headlight?

It would be shameful of me to admit I used superglue, but I used superglue.

The LED's I used were a touch too small so there wasn't much surface area to apply the adhesive between the lights and the LED rings. thumbsdown

(ignore the wiring and the yellowness of the rings. This is just a mock up headlight. Rings will be sprayed black to match my tubby light)

Can you really do that without effect on the light emission ?

I will be using that spray that is used for smoking rear lenses (remember that trend from the nineties)

Just a small layer to take out the yellow.

Woooo, classy.  When do the UV lights go in the sills?  :poke:

Seriously though, I actually think it looks pretty good.

The 85mm set came in today, and is also spot on for the inner light.

So if anybody else wants to have a go; get the 85 and the 95mm set.

So i tinted the rings, and the result optically was awsome for embedding in my tubby lights cluster.

The light result however is awfull compared to non tinted, and i will have to start over.
(can't take a decent picture, but it's pretty bad)

Any tips for getting rid of the green?

Can you get a smaller size and stick them to the inside of the light hole rim?  It'd have to be a lucky sizing but worth a look.  Might make them less intrusive on the eye.

I hadn't thought of that.

Was slightly worried that those gaps are used to let the heat of the lamps out.

Tried a thin coat of lense spray yesterday, but it looks like that green layed is somehow used to enforce the light, and not just an enclosure.
Even the smallest layer of spray completely kills the performance.

Also noticed that my old 80mm that did not fit, is much brighter then the new 85mm. It's also slightly wider (5mm versus 3.5mm)

I'm back on the hunt for 5mm wide versions of the 85 and 95mm rings.
Then may have to learn to live with the green.

To be continued.

also fitted the new lenses, the reason of my post here. And they look really good.

The hardware is not completely standard. I am working on a v2 software/hardware solution so that you can program the behavior of the rings. Now they just turn off if other light sources in the headlight are used ( that is the DIY part now). In V2 you can choose when the rings run at 100% and when at a choosen percentage and if you want them to blink orange etc.

Did you manage to find both the 85 and 95mm rings in 5mm thickness? (the really bright ones)

Some extra 85mm are ordered. I will measure the thickness. The ones I have are really bright enough.

I'm very interested in this , the last set up you had with out the indicator function was that still wired to the sidelight or from an ignition live ? Would you be interested in selling me a kit once complete for the rings and all the programming etc ? Thanks jon

Yes, mine are wired to the sidelights.

Richard seems to be using more fancy electronics.

Do you intend to fit blue puddle lights in the footwell & LED's in the sills? That would be a nice touch! Whenever I see a car bling'd up, I automatically think, What a chav. Just like nobs that fit M3 badges on a 320d....Who are they kidding? Wtf!

Yeah that is cool. I already bought M3 badges and some blue flashlights. I'm gonna make it a "BMW" policecar so everybody can see me a lot better. P.s. Jon. Still in development.
