A lot of these fast vx's still look like road cars.
It's pretty drastic to cut the arches and put on some pastic extenders, or put on a GMS clam.
Yep, it is drastic, I can understand not wanting to cut into bodywork.

you might want to reconsider going for 400bhp after what I have seen happen to a block

Please tell me what you have seen ? For the record I'm not bothered about going for any more power, just want consistant poweryou might want to reconsider going for 400bhp after what I have seen happen to a block

It is not an engine I built, but it was built from a brand new Saab engine. The cylinder wall cracked
He is still p'd off about it, but hopefully he will post the picture.
He needs to go Darton sleeves if he still wants to go for big bhp, the GM build book does say 400+ requires sleeves.

Look at it this way, BTCC cars only have 350bhp and they are unbelievably quick! As you say though just constant, reliable 350bhp.

Crancase wise a B207 = Z22SE (Ecotec gen 1 block), so exact same weakness.
For reliable 400+ you need a reinforced Gen3 block, or re-inforce the weak Gen 1 cilinder walls or fit complete steel liners like the Darton sleeves.
(PS; who, what? Impressive power if you can crack the sleeves... )

Are you sure it's not down to piston-liner overlap at high temperatures? There are massive frictional losses from a standard aluminium piston in a cast iron liner, if you add extra heat into the system then it's only going to get worse. I would be looking into the thermal expansion characteristics of the piston material. This is also where differences in the B207 and Z22SE occur as the under piston oil jets are responsible for 50 % of the piston cooling
Where did the crack originate?

Ooh that sounds worrying, I can give you a nice sturdy Z20LET iron block if you want
Actually even the z20LET can crack around the cylinder tops if the deck isn't semi-closed off (roughly £100 job at a machine shop).

B207 with under piston oil jets, Wiseco standard bore pistons with gapped rings, Eagle 2.2 steel rods, standard z22se crank and a fully balanced bottom end.

Correct. Could be thousands of things that lead to it. Bad run in process, bad mapping, workmanship of the build etc. Im not buying into the scaremongering of it all just right now. It's a classic thing that happens on this forum. These kind of things are allways a debate. Was it actually power that crackef the liner or was something else not right?
