Have you evaluated RC6 pads yet Chill?

RC5 and RC6 pads ive used, and the dont last either, i think this is the down side to the extra speed you carry going in to the corners and having the tires on the edge of locking up all the time, on a plus note i went three track days without bleeding the brakes so theres a saving of £25 and a few hours work

i actually like the RC5 pads the best but they lasted one anglesey track day,

You could try a another bell housing

https://www.seriousl...it-ap-308-discs

Could the issue be that the cutout sections in the existing bells are exerting some pressure on the disc? It would seem that on a solid bell the forces are uniform on the bell but on the cutout style bell with a dip inbetween the force would go towards the middle of the dip and exert force on the bolt hole?

I'm not normally one to dip into technical discussions but I was looking at the brakes on my Cayman yesterday and they have a bell Rotor arrangement but the bell is significantly beefier in relation to the disc than I have seen on either the EP or AP setups for the Lotus and it occurred that the bell itself is dealing with the loads on the bolts or rather it should be.

I didnt know there was a endurance pad, but would these suit relatively short stints on track days and occasional sprint day??

TBH Jon you could be on to something and its not something ive looked in to, but ive been put of by the bells and rotors style brake discs not just my experience but joes also, think its a case of solid discs and go bigger, i might live to regret that but its a cheaper option for sure

single piece disc , not solid

do you run a brake cooling duct to the discs  is it cracking on the outside face or the face with the extra airflow?

Cracks are on the outside face and yes I have air blowing on them via ducts

Standard Cayman discs are solid, but floating performance friction discs are a common replacement. I considered the Freno carbon discs but speaking to some race team people with lots of lotus cup experience they advised against it because the wear rate is expensively high and the lack of car weight makes them hard to switch on.

What I epic weekend overall at national the car was great fun and quick ish in the morning but didn't seem to have the grip on the afternoon

After going over some aspects of the car this morning it all becomes clear why

Not good and not first time I've had bolts come lose on them

Tires are bald
My three trackday old bells 🔔 and rotors
Posted Image

So it's back to standard on the front for now ( other front has a small crack near base )

Elise parts are picking the discs up to take a look of them so will see what happens with them

Went over the full front end this afternoon and put new HCB in with loctite torqued up will keep a close eye on them the hub seems to be fine took hub off and checked and cleaned threads, also checked bolt size which also seems ok so looks as if the bolts had simply come lose ??

If you have a tap and die set they come with a thread gauge, you can select the right pitch and test the bolt you have removed for inconsistencies in the thread.

To put prices into perspective: Here is an Alfa 159 disc, 305mm diam x 28mm thickness, costs £6 : http://www.ebay.co.u...mAAAOSw2iNZYEGE

It's a direct fitment onto our hubs PCB, but you'd also need to buy a spigot too to locate it (which are about £5 too). Alternately you could install the 330mm dia disc (which is what I did) but it is heavier (which is probably a good thing for heat sinking).

Then all you'd need to do is offset your current calipers, or as I did simply put a carefully measured spacer between the disc and hub to centralise the disc into the middle of the caliper.

Costs peanuts, takes maybe 5 to 10 hours to machine up the spacers.

My Porsche pads are quite cheap too, RC8 were £200 or RC6 for £150 I think.

Neither disc or pad is showing much wear after approx 12,000 road miles as they are both hugely over-speced for a 940 Kg car.
