Excellent. I would focus on the rear of the car, that's where the weight savings can be had. The front is light anyway but some rigid brake vents would be useful. I tried making complex shapes before and they never looked as good as I hoped. I found skinning was really good though and easy, but that's fine for cosmetics but makes everything heavier!

might seem daft but at the moment i am struggling with the rear of the car (getting traction down ) so yes theres a lot of weight at the rear but weight in effect is downward force so i am going to start at the front end after the hardtop, but its not going to be a fast project there is quite a lot of work to do with mouldings etc.

Tying to think what's at the front you could remake or even remove? I'm assuming a full clam is a bit ambitious for DIY but a bonnet could be doable. Certainly remove the bonnet hinge and fit an aerocatch. Then start drilling holes in everything :)

clam could be a possibility but will be teaming up with a partner

might start off with the lower clam and take it from there

Only if you ignore inertia.

Open question to anyone who has broken up a vx for parts, what are the heavy items which would make for great CF replacement?

The bracket could probably be bought at the sheet/tube places. A diffuser from sheet would be easy and light (the tat is pretty heavy) and the attaching bar also. Nothing is going to save 10's of kg unless you can make a carbon gearbox case!!! Perhaps a new thread is needed rather than clogging up chills :)

The lay technique is really important on weight though, not just the thickness. My reverie wheel is only 236g on my salter scale, but I've seen 3 ply sheet carbon weigh more at only A5 sizes.

I have a massive spreadsheet of all parts that make up a VX, literally all of them down to each nut, bolt and washer, each with their weight in grams. It was emailed to me by a previous owner who wanted me to have it. I used it to get Nipper down to 890 Kg before I then went the other way by making him more powerful as well.

The spreadsheet is highly organised with every part split in function/location/type etc, so you can sort it and dice it as required. It's particularily thorough about the fixings for some reason. Can email it to you if you like.
