Knowledge of some people on here is awsome
Cool club here.
In laymans term on this:
If you want to use any other engine then the Z22SE, then you:
- Either need to emulate (external) the Z22SE triggerwheel if you want to continue to use the Z22SE ecu (with cms mapping, or obdtuner).
- Use another ecu (like the lsj ecu with hp tuner on it), and of course major loom surgery.
Because of the sheer complexity in this, easiest would be to enforse your existing Z22SE, but that has some issues on it´s own, as techie describes.

It would be so wrong to get rid of my darling of a ECUThink the only person that has installed an external 7+1 trigger wheel to make the B207 run with a Z22SE ECU is Ultimate. Everybody else has been doing the opposite and fitting external 60-2 trigger wheels to the Z22SE to make it run with other ECU's.

Quite. You'd be bonkers to do that, now you've got it. So strengthening the Z22SE with new pistons and rods or, fitting an external trigger wheel to a B207 engine of some form (doesn't matter if it's an E, an L or an R) to make it compatible are your options. As I said, I think Ultimate is the only person who's done the B207 with Z22SE option, to date so might be worth dropping him a PM. Of course, you could just not bother chasing more power and leave it at Stage 2'ish. Which is the option I wish I'd taken initially. It would be so wrong to get rid of my darling of a ECU

I've found a problem with Dutch ECU , It's to easy to get more power and playing with maps which is now why I'm now contemplating all of this, The reason why I'm tempted with b207 is because my engine age and mileage and really my chains should of been done by now. And the b207 engines look great value for money as they are newQuite. You'd be bonkers to do that, now you've got it. As above my engine needs work without taking in account of rods pistons etcI think you can get an external trigger wheel for the Znet off the shelf to allow use of the OBD tunner. Check out Ultimates thread. Do you need an extra 60 bhp? Is it worth paying £1000s? Fit rods and enjoy it.

I did enquire with Peter @ OBDT yesterday regarding the use of a B207 / Z20 with his ECU / Software. His reply below:
"Yes, the B207 and family have certainly benefits over the Z22SE, in Germany it is a popular switch and most of them are running with ObdTuner.
You can use the OEM wiring loom, but you have to connect a 6+1 trigger wheel to the crankshaft pulley. Also the ignition module from your Z22SE must be used, this can be installed into the B207 head with an adapter plate. You also have to make some adapter plates for the oil cooler and camshaft. I have attached a few pictures so you can see what I mean.
The Z22SE does get its cam position from the ignition module (compression sense ignition) this is necessary because the Z22SE also uses sequential injection. Because of the CSI you do not need the camshaft sensor of the B207
The Z22SE ECU cannot control the boost like the LSJ does. But if you would like to install a standalone boost controller, ObdTuner will work fine with this because with ObdTuner you will be using speed density for boosted engines and this system will adapt itself to variable boost. (Speed density mode is not available in the OEM Z22SE software).
Also keep in mind the fly wheel of the B207 uses 8 bolds, so you cannot use the Z22SE fly wheel."
And a couple of other pictures included:

It's got a use. It's become an integral part of the garage now and has become my official battery charging station for all of my cordless tools. There's three different battery chargers on top of it, for the three different brands of charger and batteries I have (really need to bin them all and settle on a DeWalt or similar range). More seriously though, except for the coil packs which I need to pick up from Joe, I now have every component needed for a full on LSJ + HPTuners conversion with some additional upgraded goodies in the head. Just the motivation that is sadly lacking since I grew to hate the car. That's the stupid thing, I got this engine to solve most of my hatred of it but, the memory of my hatred for the upgraded Z22SE has meant I've had no motivation to get on with the swap. It's a paradox.Give it some good use. Sell it to chill
