It's hard to go back though.

Yep. Impossible, I'm afraid. Though I won't be unhappy if my 2.0 litre conversion drops 10-20bhp.

It's a similar situation with the car market as a whole, they were more fun with less power and actual connections to the engine and chassis, but if anyone made something like that now everyone would complain that it's underpowered and unrefined.

The Toybaru IS underpowered though. There's no denying it and no amount of skinny low rolling resistance tyres will disguise that for more than an hour. :beat:

(oh how I wish OBDTuner had been available back then - would love to have seen what that could have done).

Not much. obdtuner 1.0 is very close to decent CS mapping.

Courtenay's couldn't do anything back then for bigger NA mods, so they weren't even in the equation. This was many many hours of pretty sh!t TMS and Superchips custom mapping.

Hah, I wasn't actually referring to that, although with how its marketed it does read like I am. The fact is its the equivalent of a fat middle aged man in Topman skinny jeans. It might be trying to push all the right buttons but its still weighed down by the gut of modern safety and comfort desires and doesn't use any innovative thinking to get around them. What size pulley are you running? I have a smooth flow 3.0 inch pulley if you're running a smaller one. Frankly I don't even want the temptation of having it close to me with standard pistons, 265 bhp and 325 nm is dangerous enough.

2.9" Smoothflow currently on mine. In my box of B207/LSJ goodies, I've got a 3.1" pulley to give a whirl to see if that makes life more acceptable. ETA: Might have to take the 3.0" off your hands and benchmark them all.

Vocky are you sure the Wiseco std bore pistons drop straight in on a new engine? If so why don't people just get the block honed and fit the std bore pistons?

changing to a overbored piston will require a rebore, but you can buy standard size from that website which will drop straight in.

bad idea unless you have a very low mileage engine (sub 20,000 miles)

I sent two blocks for honing, both were out of tolerance and had to be rebored. One had done 40k and the other 45k

worst case the new block will need a hone, but you cannot easily add metal to a worn engine
