One or the other is my bet. Looks too "engineered" to be just a blank/plug. My version of the Saab WIS and EPC is useless and doesn't even show the cooler at all.thermostat? pressure relief spring?

Can ask on UKSaabs if you'd like? And it's important?

thermostat, the early Saab B207 / Z20NET bypassed the oil cooler until the oil got hot enough
the group buy engines are A20NET and don't have this feature

How are you mounting the Saab oil cooler as was lead to believe won't fit past the vx220 gearbox?
I ran the Saab oil cooler for a couple of years, never noticed any difference on the road.

Good idea on older, higher viscosity oils. Not much point with the modern stuff though. They probably revised the oil grade recommendations when they removed the thermostat.

Thanks Neil. I really should go and remove the shrink wrap from the new engine sat in the garage and see what that's got instead.thermostat, the early Saab B207 / Z20NET bypassed the oil cooler until the oil got hot enough the group buy engines are A20NET and don't have this feature

What Neil said, The newer Saab / A20NET engines have the oil cooler directly bolted to the block without a thermostat.
For my LSJ I modded this thermostat housing to fit with the original VX oilcooler & hoses:

Cheers Neil, what diameter is the water feed to the oil cooler so I can buy a length of Ali pipe to bypass the oil cooler(z22se).oil pressure switch, just extend the wire and use the vx220 plug, the switch is exactly the same
