The reason why is because your changing gears so much more. People where saying that under 300bhp the 4.17 gear box is fine but anything after is not. Well I'm running alot more then 300bhp and I love my 4.17 gear box, tbh I didn't really notice much differences when they changed.

That would be way too short in an SC car IMHO. It would be a 4 speed box as 1st would be redundant. 1st in my 4.6fd box lets me get going but then an instant change to 2nd (I only have 205bhp)

No I'm going to be on a tight budget to get margo back on the road I think I've got my head around all the f23 boxes must be out of 2.2 or bell housing will be wrong Options SG 4:17 close ratio probably to close of a ratio Any other z22se box as long as it's out of a vx220, Astra or zafira not a vectra as mount is at front

have you tried calling a vauxhall gearbox company explain your symptoms and see what they say maybe just a bearing or something which can be changed, worth a call

:yeahthat:

Aren't you better off trying to get yours overhauled rather than lumping for a second hand box that could be just as bad?

You're welcome to it.

Pretty much every person who's had their gearbox repaired/overhauled has spent a fortune and the failed in one way or another within a year.

Lower risk fitting a low(ish) mileage box

I know very little about g-boxes The bit in the gearbox where the splines of the driveshaft meets up is rattling Is that the diff ?? I'm not in any rush to fix it as car is now in early hibernation I will get a cheap second hand box and put it in eventually then strip down my original box and see if I can gain some gearbox knowledge and you never no I might be able to repair it Time will tell Cheers all

Yep, that's the diff, held in place by 2 conical roller bearings.

You may well find just the conical bearings need replacing (which is easy and cheap), as they do seem to take a bit of a battering.

BTW, Margo is a great name fo a VX :)

I've been working on the car today After my woes at snetterton with the vibration which seemed to move all round the car At first I thought it was the new discs I had fitted not sitting right in the car this is now not likely to be the issue On the way home from snetterton I think I was lucky to get home without causing a lot of damage The car was violently vibrating which I convinced was the gearbox after taking the rear passenger side hub shaft etc off the car Here is the video again of why I thought it was the gearbox It turns out this is normal on the gearbox after buying a other gearbox and confirming on a known good gearbox So with a other gearbox in the garage I set my self up to find the issue I have also repaired/replaced the cv boot for a Kia Sedona boot before snetterton do thought this was a good place to start There wasent enough boot grease in the kit I got so I added a little more before snetterton, I was thinking there still was not enough grease in there so I cleaned it all up again and filled the cup with grease after putting the balls etc I then started to reassemble the corner of the car and completely by chance I noticed the castle nut was lose but still had the pin in I have never previously been able to remove the shaft from the hub thinking it was seized in, after removing the pin I could undo the castle nut with my fingers and also the shaft came out of the hub freely. So my new thinking was this was my vibration Is this possible ?? I'm assuming at snetterton the shaft released from the hub and then left play from the hub to castle nut causing the vibration Anybody have any other thoughts on my findings ??
