That would be way too short in an SC car IMHO. It would be a 4 speed box as 1st would be redundant. 1st in my 4.6fd box lets me get going but then an instant change to 2nd (I only have 205bhp)You can also get a 4.41 fd from the usa.

Pretty much every person who's had their gearbox repaired/overhauled has spent a fortune and the failed in one way or another within a year.
Lower risk fitting a low(ish) mileage box

The bit in the gearbox where the splines of the driveshaft meets up is rattling Is that the diff ??
Yep, that's the diff, held in place by 2 conical roller bearings.
You may well find just the conical bearings need replacing (which is easy and cheap), as they do seem to take a bit of a battering.
