Note: Post title reads 14v hardwire. This is a 12v devise mod. Moderator please amend thread title. Hi Guys, I just bought an el cheapo in car CCTV / black-box on fleabay: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4d0a05edc7 I intend using the infrared motion sensor function to catch the little fecker who keeps messing with my motor! In fact the units were so cheap I bought 4x for a total 360 field of view (I have a cunning plan for concealment). Anyhow... As the units will run off batteries when in overnight "motion sensor mode" (yes, I have spare bats & no I don't hold out great hopes on image quality) I'd like to charge the units only when the engine is running (& maybe use as safety cameras / for a bit of fun). To keep things neat I want to hardwire. I had intended running a spur of the cig lighter (for all), but the cig lighter remains powered even with ignition off & keys out?! I'm now thinking of running power off the stereo, as it only "comes on" when ignition is engaged. The cameras claim to be 12v so I plan on routing all cables to back of stereo head unit, soldering together, joining with stereo power leads & shrink sealing all. Now then.... Are the power leads feeding the stereo head unit black = positive & yellow = negative? This will be a dash off mod, so if folk think its needed I'll gladly do another PDF guide in return for help and advise. As I did with my recent airbox mod, the guide for which can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox....ide VX220NA.pdf Thanks in advance for all help offered. Benzola.

Easiest place if you want to be dead certain could possibly be the ignition barrel, that will have a positive, ignition and negative. Alternatively bolt/screw a ring terminal'd earth wire to the alu chassis for chassis earth.

From the stereo, Black is negative. Purple and green are the 2 lives. Green is switched live apparently.

If somebody thinks black could be positive then I'm guessing a wiring diagram will be more confusing

Most of the new vag are red or red-yellow/white trace live. Yellow-black trace ignition and I tend not to care about earth as I go straight to chassis :D/> In fact iirc some corsas and Astra's are black for switched.
