I have a build up of mist and little bits of crap on the inside of the lens of my headlights. I have taken the headlight out as I am replacing the HID ballast. What suggestions of how to get to the inside of the lens to clean it?

Take the lens off. Only way I think. Mist you could leave the units to dry in the airing cupboard.

The mist will always come back though unless you get very lucky when you reseal it.

Hair dryer and a knife to remove the lens. Touch up the black with touch up paint if any comes off. Pretty easy. Getting the lens in the right place when putting back together is the hard part

Is there a guide to taking the lens off and what sealant do you use as I have read most of them won't last and the lens will fall off.

I used double sided foam tape to stick the lens on (easier as you can fiddle with them this way) and a black headlight sealant from halfords. I stuck the lens on with double sided foam tape and left them overnight to finish the next day as it was getting late... next day i went to pull the lens off to position it right and i had to use hairdryer to get them off! so even with the tape alone they wont be falling off any time soon. I only did mine a few weeks ago but no leaks what so ever...

Do you mean body shop? If so I doubt anyone would touch our lights.

Yeah i remember my first service at Vauxhall, some young mechanic was doing alignment on my headlights... he said you have a fly in your light haha! and water has got in! you will need a new light and decided to kinda throw it onto the bench... and thats Vauxhall. Its easy enough to do yourself, not much can go wrong tbh unless your impatient

Chris posted a really good guide to splitting and resealing headlamps on here years ago I followed it and it works a treat just heat them in the oven warm them up then carefully split them apart use a heat gun to keep everything soft. It's so simple even a numpty like me can do it and while your at it give the inside a coat of black for that turbo look 5 years later I have no misting still

I removed mine again for the millionth time and left them to dry in front of a fan heater with all lamps removed,left by the radiator for days so fully dry.I then went all around the joints with black mastic, loads of the stuff so it was imposable for water to get in.Silicone grease on all the grommets. Re fitted and was over the moon, the lights had no condensation in and looked great. Two weeks of rain and snow and guess what ? The fcuking things have slight condensation in the corners So I now give up and will just get some small fish to put in when they get worse, maybe some corral and a little model diver would look ok Tell me if you disagree but I think if its out in the pissing rain all its life then they turn into an aquarium no matter what you do

just reseal them as per chris's guide I have had no issues since resealing it really isn't that hard to do probably takes longer to dry out on the radiator

I just dont see how moisture could get in after sealing with mastic but after a few weeks out in the rain one has slight condensation in the very corner. I give up. Thats it they win.

I don't know either it must be something to do with it not being sealed properly

The heat of the lampes seem to be atttracting moist somehow. Opel/vauxhall officially put a message out that it was recognised, by design and harmless, thus ignorable. That was just for the front lights. For the rears they had a fix.

What was the fix for the rears? The foam? If so it doesn't work!
