Thanks for all this guys, its not as if I have a big enough challenge this year in Time Attack without my core team falling out with my technical sponsor and my technical sponsor falling out with my core team.

Sorry Mike, but when someone comes into an established forum and starts shouting the odds, taking very little onboard and making out they know everything, it's never going to go well.

We (the moderator/admin team) have received a number of complaints about his manner, his conduct and his rudeness to others.

What are we supposed to do?

It takes two to argue Lee and when it potentially damages my sponsorship deal I feel I have the right to speak up.

And it was aimed at both sides.

I do feel for you Mike but you can't expect everyone to walk on egg shells while your technical sponsor acts in a inflammatory manor.

Apart from every thread your technical sponsor contributes to descends into farce.

You may want to have words since he was saved from a permanent ban today by a single moderator/admin.

and yet it was other people that were rude to him on the first page? He asked if the people that were doing it were aware it could compromise the tub, then he got a 'wtf you on about' and another member bringing mikes car into it?

All the guy has to do is act normally and explain what he's talking about. I for one am here to learn, I'd quite enjoy a rational explanation from such an apparently knowledgeable guy, but all his input descends into pantomime, it does work both ways, but it's generally Simon that starts it by being obtuse. Just my general observations of stuff.

Really? not sure it will serve much purpose other than to cause more bitching but lets put it this way, ive been a member here for less than 6 months. JG hinted that he himself was going to bite his lip more (and then decided against it withinabout 2 hours lol), theres an ongoing joke about techie being an arse because he's been attempting to quit smoking, slindborg by his own admission is a doodah, and two members specifically threw this thread off target.

Now Im sure that does me as a newbie no favours with people but fcuk me, really????

The difference though is that those that you have mentioned may be obtuse sometimes (and you forgot cocopops and I'm disappointed I wasnt included) but they're not pig ignorant bullies that try to belittle other members and invade this forum like a cancer

The thing is, the people that you have mentioned have been on here for years, they have contributed and continue to contribute a hell of a lot to this forum. A result of them being on here for so long is that we've got to know them, and we know that their posts aren't meant to offend. They've kind of earned the right to be grumpy sometimes.

I think with Scuffers, the thing that anoys people the most, is that his points don't really get explained. I've seen him post on here that he doesn't have time to explain things to people on here (not as nicely put as that though  ). But with the amount of time spent in arguments, he could have explained the original point 10 times over, and that would've avoided the argument in the first place.

We all know he's supposedly got a wealth of knowledge... We just can't seem to extract it from him.

(I'm off for a lay down now, I'm not used to serious posts  )

to then cut into that so close to the fold takes what little rigidity and strength away, this is basic structural stuff, you don't need to model it in CAD/FEA to see the issues (which is why I am amazed at a self-professed Structural engineer can post such bollocks)
I don't think anyone has suggested going so close to the fold, you started with the ill founded comments well before someone posted an image which showed an example which I agree is extreme. In fact to some degree it was a bit of a let off for you.
The basic technique of enlarging a hole and fitting a larger cover (shear panel) with several well positioned fasteners is neither unsound nor dangerous if done correctly.
They even use the technique to patch up structural panels of aircraft.

A flat sheet of ali has sod all strength against compressive loads without being formed, much like a sheet of paper won't support any load as a flat sheet, but if you put a couple of folds in it and make it into a channel, then close the open side (like the shear panel does), suddenly it can take compressive loads.

True, but then my son when he was 6 could have told me that.

so after all that, you actually agree that it's a stupid thing to do, but you just can't bear to say that in so many words?

(I had already seen the picture and a few cars before this thread started, so I knew what was being done.)

Look, I just don't get how anybody can defend cutting the hole out in the chassis, it's only done because people are far too lazy to do the job properly and drop the tank.

Like I have said before, it's no skin of my nose if you want to trash your own car, but to post up how-to threads for others to follow is pushing it.

A l am sure if somebody asked Lotus to comment on the practice, I know what their reply would be, I also know that if one got involved in a serious accident where the Police took an interest, somebody could end up with problems (I have already gone through this with the Honda conversions, one customer had a Major head on, the Police impounded what was left of his car, then wanted chapter and verse on the conversion, the test data, product liability insurance cover, etc. - it does happen).

As the Mods have obviously taken an interest in this thread, maybe they would like to comment on the abuse I have received within this thread?

I wonder what people would do such a thing to get access to the fuel pump on their racing Exige?

Abuse? Where's the abuse? All I see is the truth. If you dont want what you perceive as abuse then dont try and bully people, dont try and belittle people and dont act like a fcuking prick (that last bit was abuse)

Scuffers,

No one is trying to dismiss the amount of knowledge and experience you have with these cars, but the way you approach most subjects tends to be one of 'do as i say, because I have achieved this'. This attitude was most prominent with the ARB debate, both yourself and the rest of the forum knew that posting up laptimes with different drivers, engines, suspension set up, tyres ect ect ect would not prove which ARB was better, but you persisted because you had the fastest car and maintained that there was no other way to go about getting those times other than following your direction.

The best discussions are the ones back up with evidence. WHY is that ARB better, do you have any evidence that a rear ARB causes the car to break grip quicker. WHY will cutting out a larger hole for the fuel pump weaken the chassis. Do you have any evidence of this?

Frankly, if you maintain your current attitude you will do a disservice not only to yourself, but to the people and companies you are trying to support. I am not trying to say you are blameless, and I agree that there are people who have made incendious comments in this thread and others to get a reaction, however the issue you is that you give them a reaction.

I would also like to point out that the topics you are involved in are some of the most interesting on the forum because they do bring out knowledge and understanding, however if we keep it to facts and supported evidence then everyone can gain understanding without compromising professional and personal relationships.

Despite the general contempt throughout this thread is an interesting debate. It would be interesting to find out peoples opinion on making the hole a touch bigger and then epoxy bonding in a flange to the bottom or swaging the hole to add some rigidity. It could end up stronger than the OE holed panel.

Any answer to this option? :poke:
