Just to give a bit of background, there are lots of sponges available on eBay called 'magic sponge' they are slightly abrasive but due to the soft construction mean they only abrade adhered dirt. I bought a pack of 30 for £10 on ebay and have so far used them on the exposed aluminium - both the undertray and visible aluminium on the interior. The anodising is unmarked and still there, but the years of grime is completely gone. They look like new.
I've also used it on the leather on the steering wheel. The result is a completely matt finish with no damage to the leather. My steering wheel now looks new rather than having done 82k miles.
Now if only you can find a magic fiberglass fixing sponge!

Haven't tried to be honest. I only had one go with them last night, and spent the drive in today remarking at how good my car interior looked, which really is a novelty.

Sugar Puffs, Snack-a-Jacks and polystyrene has the same effect on me.
I am finding it really weird that several of us all feel the same. For years I considered myself to be 'weird' for this. Even my students giggle at it on occasions - like when I refuse to use a yellow 'duster' cloth to clean the whiteboard.
Similar pain comes when ice cream arrives with honeycomb in it or a bowl of strawberries come with an undisclosed piece of meringue.
