no, you are right, but that said, it's just semantics again.Unless of course I got that arse about face (which I don't think I have, this time).
you can get helper/tender springs from 4lb to 600+lb
reason we use them on Quantums with extended travel is to provide some non-linear rate on droop, this means we keep some load on the unloaded wheel.
doing this maintains contact patch and means for example,, that your torsen LSD has got something to work with, if you pick up the wheel, it's game over.

to a point, yes, but consider that the Quantum 1 ways are the base adjustable damper vs. the new (well almost) 46mm NitronsI've got a 2011 spec NTR 46 shock with helpers and I've got 95mm of droop/travel on the rear. Not saying that's the be all and end all just adding balance to the argument as it suggests Nitron are lacking in this when in fact it's based on spec.
the 46mm Nitrons are the most expensive option, they (as in Nitron) suggest their std NTR is the competitor to the Quantum Blacks.
I would argue that the quantum Black is a better shock in every respect than both the NTR and 46mm range, quite apart from being a hell of a lot cheaper.
*all* the quantums have full stroke for the application, not just the expensive ones
the next step up is the Quantum X series dampers, (that were launched at Autosport)

4 way fully independant external full flow valving

They do look very sexy, but I would be constantly adjusting them for the rest of my life though so I've always gone for one ways

I wasn't using my 46's as a comparison with the blacks, I know the Blacks are more targeted to the same performance range as the standard NTR's and in that comparison the NTR's are actually less expensive

Can't quite see how you could argue that the basic spec small tube black is "a better shock in every respect" than a 46mm Race spec Nitron of almost double it's value but I didn't come in here to have a 'who's best' row. I really respect both the Quantum range and Nitron equipment and the reputation both have made for themselves within the VX/Lotus fraternity. I have no respect for Gaz and the crap they flooded the VX market with over the last few years though. I've come under alot of criticism over this point in clashes with people who thought my opinion was fabricated to promote Nitron sales (they were a sponsor when I was in TA) when in fact it was based on my hatred of rubbish products. I'd consider using Quantums in the future, but to be honest I really do love my Race 46's, they are the best mod on my car by far!!

This is why I chose Quantum Zero's, I don't need to adjust them to go between road and track and don't even need to think about helper springs/droop/torsion etc etc.
These dampers really are good for people that want a great handling car and don't care too much how it happens!

left is at ride hight, right is at full droop:
As you probably can't read the tape, it's showing some ~80mm of droop at the back wheels, whilst at the same time having plenty of bump travel available (even when using relatively soft springs).
As a comparison, this is his old Nitron 1 ways lined up against the new Quantum Blacks:
thats an S1 , on the VX the open length is limited by the top wishbone clearance to the chassis
my old and new 40mm / 46mm rears , so you can see the VX open length comparison. With this I can run at 90mm rear RH without problems and 50mm droop

Can you supply Quantums then scuffers?
He works on behalf of the people who do. EliseParts.

not really, no...thats an S1 , on the VX the open length is limited by the top wishbone clearance to the chassis
my old and new 40mm / 46mm rears , so you can see the VX open length comparison. With this I can run at 90mm rear RH without problems and 50mm droop
VX/S2 rears are just longer because the chassis end is higher up
if you wanted to, it's much easier to make a VX/S2 damper with a lot more stroke as you have more length to play with
FYI, the Quantum Black rears are the same S1/S2/VX except the latter two have longer top eyes.
running 90mm ride with 50mm droop is actually not much, I would want at least 80mm+ droop at that kind of hight, because if you then had to raise the car, every mm of ride height increase is coming straight out of your droop...
this was always the Nitron issue that you had to spec the damper for a specific ride hight, whereas if you have full damper travel, you can use the same set for any practical hight.

No, I am not a salesman, (and no I don't get paid on EP's Quantum sales either before somebody suggests that!)

I do like the idea of a fixed bump/rebound ration in single way adjustables for ease and it's a great idea to fix that as a cheap upgrade for the non fettler road guys out there. Couldn't live without some adjustment on track but these aint for that.... great concept though! Are they a monotube?
