As a slight "aside" I still think running without a rear floopan whatsoever is the way ahead. I've been doing this for 2 or 3 years now and I can't say I notice any difference in handling/aero. The benefits of not having a floorpan are much better cooling for the engine and gearbox, not to mention 6 Kg less weight in the rear of the car.

Plus, you don't have to remove it every time there's some minor maintenance required or you've dropped a washer.

I like mine though.

It's not that I'm not a fan of Matt's floorpan. He's a very creative and capable chap, it's more to do with whether the function of any floorpan outweighs the function of not having a floor pan.

According to reverie a correctly shaped under tray has a bigger effect on lift than most rear wings! Don't think the originals are wide enough though.

Yep, free downforce (or lift reduction) as well, as there's no drag from it.

Premise: Reverie's existence depends on saying such things and getting people to buy into it.

I am not saying that a floorpan designed in conjunction with lots of other body changes can't help with aero/downforce, far from it. It's just that I think the VX220 has never had that sort of consolidated input. For a start a VXT has a CD of 0.41 - that is truly shocking, and shows that the designers made little/no attempt to consider aero. Taking the floorpan off the car might possibly (at a guess) add 0.01 CD to that. So you have to consider whether that is offset by improved cooling and weight loss...

So is the justification for a mod now that it saves the weight of a poo?

This can only lead to constipated VX'ers modding rather than laxativ-ating.

TBH, I was just having a play with new materials (new to me that is).

Hi, what's the weight of that entire floorpan pls, just out of interest?

OE weighed just over 4kg on the better halfs scales (4.2), mine weighs just under 3 kg (2.9). I cant claim any accuracy of the scales but mass difference should be OK hence claiming 1kg saving.
