There has got to be £50-60 worth of padding per seat which gives £80-90 per seat to purchase. This is without considering he has a profit built in here. I would want to have a good long look at the construction of these seats and how well they are reinforced around the subframe mounting points. I am also nervous when reading that you have to drill the seat to mount. All race seats I have ever fitted (and there have been many) have all had captive threaded mounts which (I believe) is MSA standard.

I read it as you have to drill the subframe to mount

"These will fit on the OEM seat runners. All that has to be done is to drill four mounting holes for fitting to the seat frame"

Open to interpretation but I read it as the seat being drilled.

Either way, I would be concerned at this price as to how strong this seat would be in the event of an accident and yes it does matter. The belt can only do so much, a broken seat will cause more damage to a body in the event of an accident than one without a broken seat. I remember an investigation into the death of a Mini Racer who went head on into a tyre wall and the inquest verdict was that he was killed because the seat ripped out of the subframe mountings effectively crushing the driver's internals.

Sorry, that is a bit dramatic I know but I never cut corners on these things.

I have picked up a set of the seats today, I will be fitting them by the weekend.I think to be fear to all seller and buyers that I will not post purchasing details until the seats have been used a little while , I am doing a track day at Snetterton on Sunday the seats should be in for then A couple of VX are there maybe they can post their thoughts on the seats after seeing them fitted. JG will also see them fitted at the evening trackday at Snetterton in May, I sure he will give you a unbiased report then.

Really keen on these as long as I can get them in black and possibly without padding so I can get some padding that matches the Motorsport ones :)

Okay. That might not be strictly true. But I do have a pair of Exige double shear subframes here that are just crying out for something to fit to them.

I'm even beginning to like them in white, with some Elise Club Racer padding on. :o

Lotus dealers have few of the above Elieses for sale they taking the sequenshal gear boxes out as donot work to well in slow traffic. They are replacing them with a manual box.

Do you have any idea how much cost the lotus seats and where I can get them cheap?

I am not jumping to conclusions JG, I am only voicing my concern over what may not be what it is hoped to be.

I have been in the motorsport and performance road industry a long time and I can count as friends a few seat manufacturers such as Simon from Reverie, Steve from Tillett and Mark from Cobra and I know how much it costs them to make a composite seat just in terms of time let alone materials. For a composite seat to be offered this cheap there has to be corners cut in terms of materials used either in quality or quantity otherwise they would be selling each seat at a loss.

Not necessarily mike... Those names all have a premium for name, overheads, flashy websites etc etc.... As you said... Lets not jump to conclusions about corners cut ;)

You haven't even seen them yet! I'm sorry Mike, but that sort of post winds me up. How do you know they haven't found a clever way of doing something? How do you know those are the final prices? How do you know they haven't copied an already tested mould? How do you know they haven't made economies of scale? Well let me help you. You don't. I don't know anything about them either. But poo pooing something which someone has done with sweeping speculation gets my back up. See them, hell, even try them and them come out and speak out against them. Then we might have listened. Although now we won't since you've already shown yourself to be prejudiced against them because your friends are the competition. Poor show Mike, poor show.

Dtt used to be considerably cheaper than he is now.... Vat, popularity, premium etc.... Does that mean he used to cut corners and now doesn't? Or does it just mean that he now has more work and can afford to increase prices.

FFS James, chill out.

I am not against anything here and I am certainly not protecting anybody's market share, friends or not.

OK, not seen them yet, I agree that it is early to dismiss them which you will notice I have not done at all. I expressed a concern about safety, are we no longer allowed opinions on .Org?

I care not if anybody buys them however I hope to hope now Kieron has them fitted that they are good, sound and safe seats.

There is an old saying that says "you get what you pay for"

Saying that, I will be very happy if I am proved wrong.

Guys generally when something is cheap, it has to have compromises. To be 140 pounds per seat is a hell of a good price. I also wish they are good and I am thinking of buying them.
