Never really liked the separate switches for side lights / low beam / front fogs / rear fogs so I decided to use a VW headlight switch instead

Thanks to Mr Darcini I acquired a spare dash trim and then just added the VW light switch holder to it. I bought a VW Golf mk5 headlight switch and new plug from a VW dealer.

I also bought a different Vauxhall hazard light switch, which is going to be fitted where the starter button usually sits and the starter button is going somewhere else - I have yet to decide exactly where that will be

The finished trim and switch

It's a good idea actually. Certainly less likely to fall apart and easier to get hold of spares.

I assume you will have to cut the dash frame behind this switch too?

That's gonna take some serious wiring changes, isn't it? :o

just the separate dash panel (not the actual chassis dash frame) and I have only recently fitted a brand new one :beat:

wiring is a little complicated

Due to using the Golf mk5 version I have had to use reed relays for the switch outputs and they switch the original relays

Is it me, or is that plastic bal behind the dash trim looking higher then your dashboard? Looks like a major chop shop routine. Better call Leepu.

the new trim panel and switch is sat on a clear plastic jug for the photo, I didn't want to scratch the paint :P

Cutting that panel will write your car of Vocky.

It's already massively compromised so won't make much difference ;)

Wiring should be easy.... just a little thought needed. Consider using the Switch to ground the relay actuator rather than supply like currently.

this is the new wiring loom, with reed relays, ready to fit to the car and also the rear of the dash panel.

I have added two additional Bosch relays because the original side lights and low beam switches handled more current than the reed relays can handle.

I didn't have to trim very much off the alloy dash panel to allow the new switch to fit and the original switches could be refitted if I ever wanted to.
