Quick update as I've not posted for a while... Car is now SORNed and still doesn't have an MOT :( ...I finally motivated myself to put it all back together and noticed that the flange on the cat was at a different angle to the flange on the decat pipe.  Laim @ MMG advised it would not line up without some serious messing around, so kindly arranged for 2Bular to take both the cat and decat sections back to make the cat the same as the decat.  Liam's been a great help as always... but the exhaust hasn't been collected yet, so it's going to be a while before she is back on the road.

Haven't actually worked on the car for a while but am building up a collection of parts to fit :)

-Rear tow eye

-Front tow eye (I'll only fit when I track)

-Shift-i shift light

-Gear knob

-Carbon gear stick cover

I have also just done a bit of a 3 way swap and sold my Courtenay tophat and am waiting for delivery of a DG tophat/plenum and hard pipe IC to tophat/plenum kit.

I have recently bought a splitter also but may have had a change of heart... think I may look at creating one from plywood, so any advice would be useful... especially on the fitting approach and how to get it to sit correctly given the front of the VX isn't completely flat bottomed.

In my experience/experimentation a splitter does very little until it is about 6 to 7 CM off the floor Alex, which makes it non road compliant :( Mind you, my front clam shape is a bit diff to yours, so maybe it isn't comparable. I am thinking of taking mine off to see if I even notice the difference, I suspect not, in which case I will leave it off.

Did some work on the VX for the first time in ages today...

Fitted new gasket on the throttle body... with hindsight, the original looked fine but hey:

Posted Image

Fitted the DG intake kit... was harder to fit that I expected.  I had to delete the alternator shield as it fouled:

Posted Image

There was a bit of trial and error involved in figuring out the order in which to assemble and attach the kit... for future reference, I found the easiest method was to assemble the whole kit and insert from above with a number of test fits and tweaks to the alignment before finally tightening the jubilees on the kit, sliding down one last time and then attaching the top hat/plenum and then the jubilees at the IC end:

I must have removed and refitted the arch liners a dozen times, but could I get it to go back in?... in the end I had to walk away before I put my fist through something... I will save that argument for another day... can't see that the positioning of the hard pipe is any different to the Courtenay one I had in there before, but I could be wrong.

Also... I have finally got the exhaust sections back from 2Bular, so just need to fit the arch liner, cat, lambda and undertrays, MOT her and then maybe I may drive her before the year is out  rallly

Spent hours trying to get the arch liner and the DG intake kit to live happily together but they just don't.  With the pipework pushed to it's limits of alignment, I can just about force the liner in, but it still rests heavily against the pipework, which I am not comfortable with.  Unfortunately, after wasting LOTS of time and money, I need to write it off as a bad idea and buy another kit... probably a Courtenay one again!

Oh well, you live, learn and move forward.

just a thought, is that because the charge cooler setups raise the outlet compared to the intercooler?

Hi Fezzasus, cheers for sharing your thoughts... always appreciated thumbsup

I am on a standard IC setup... however if I was using a CC setup and the outlet is indeed higher, I very much doubt that it would be a problem as it is the inside edge of the liner that fouls, in the area just above and to the right of the damper mount.

Cheers

Alex

Think I may have just thought of a way to resolve this...

I have a pipe like this...

Posted Image

The kink in the straight may provide sufficient space for the liner to clear.  I am going to consider creating a frankenstein, chopping the Courtenay pipe just after the kink, and chopping the long hard pipe in half.  It may sound nuts but I think it will do the trick :)

Don't forget to take into account that the engine will rock forward by approx. 1 to 2 inches when you boot it.
