Cheers Nev... this idea will increase the amount of Silicone between IC and Tophat/plenum quite a lot, which should help mitigate any problem caused by the engine rocking... I have inserts front and back so hopefully it's more like 1 inch than 2

Well, after a number months of neglect, I have been working on the VX in the evenings after work during the last few weeks and after much titting around, I have finally managed to get the intake to fit alongside the archliner.
Cut part of my DG intake up
Bought a beed roller and rolled a beed in the end
Sanded and polished again
Ready to mate with my Courtenay pipe with a kink
(More to follow)

Chopped the bracket for the alternator shield and protected with hammerite
Fitted
Arch liner in
Removed the Europa Coil Cover and replaced with a plain one
Finally feel as though I am getting somewhere!!!

Nice!
Good effort Alex, where did you get the bead roller from?

Well, I had another sudden rush of blood to the head today... probably caused by lying down under the VX for most of it!
Fitted the Cat and "joiner" sections of the exhaust, and bolted in the Lambda... Even managed to line up the exhaust tips nicely
Just the following left to go before I book her MOT
-Change oil and filter
-Route the Lambda wire, cable tie and plug in
-Put the trays on
-Decide whether or not to try and drain the fuel, but top up with some fresh at the minimum
-Start her up

.. so plenty of time to get along to the SW meet next Sunday!!

I have now cleaned, routed, cable tied and connected the lambda electrical connector...
I then deviated from my list ...
-Removed fuse for fuel pump
-Removed connector to coil pack
-Turned over for 15-20 seconds to get some oil circulating
-Put back fuse for fuel pump
-Put back connector to coil pack
-Pushed the button...
She fired up straight away and sounded perfect, and no error codes There is also significantly less fuel in it than I thought there was so can get away with topping up with fresh rather than having to drain the tank!
BUT... smoke coming from the chimney above the turbo
So...
-Glass half full - 13 months of dust burning off the exhaust and turbo
-Glass half empty - disturbed the vband connection to the turbo whilst swapping in the cat, or something more catestrophic
Next steps...
-Check and top up the oil as required following the oil change
-Fill up with some fresh Shell Nitro
-Run for a while and see if the smoke continues... and if it does, crawl under and start fcuking around with the vband connection to the turbo!
So... some positive progress, some risk of more work required before MOT!

Maybe you split a few drops of oil over the turbo area? Try burning if off, a couple of drops can make a LOT of smoke so don't panic.
The v-band leaking wont cause smoke, any exhaust fumes might be smelt but not seen IMO.
Smoke could come from the engine standing for ages, oil could leak down from the stem seal into the cynlinders, then when you start it the initial misture is heavily oily which then escapes though the exhaust gasket (which is cold and not fully sealed) - sounds tenuous, but it happens on Nipper.

So, after a few days of over analysing where the smoke could be coming from... my suspect list was:
-Exhaust leak burning the bulkhead insulation
-Turbo oil return leaking
-Dust, spiders, rats etc., burning off the manifold and turbo
Went out this evening to have a butchers and found that the block to cam cover 90 degree breather hose was covered in a film of clean oil! Inspected it and found the Courtenay silicone hose was perfectly fine, but the jubilee clips were only finger tight! Cleaned it up...
Then tightened the jubilees everywhere, on the intake and breathers etc., ...and none of them were anywhere near as tight as I last left them!
Couldn't be arsed to jack the car up and check the turbo oil return but the bulkhead insulation is fine, and couldn't find any rats.
Fuel can is at the post office waiting for collection so I will pick it up, get some fuel, top up, and test tomorrow... fingers crossed

Coolio, nice simple fix to the mystery oil smoke

After filling the tank from Jerry cans over the last week, I ran her up this evening, NO SMOKE!!!! Fitted the undertray, and did some MOT checks (lights etc), torqued the wheel bolts and pumped up the typres...
Ready for MOT!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck
