UPDATE:

A "for sale" popped up in my FB feed for a tow hook/brace bar/jacking point intended for an Elise S2... Never liked the idea of being dragged out of a gravel trap backwards by my existing one, so thought I'd give it a try.  Painted the hook red and needed to get some spacers made up, which the seller will be able to supply for VX220 fitment going forward.  Feel free to PM me if you are interested and I can refer you.

Does that tow hook just connect into the bar that is attached by the 2 main bolt holes that hold the centre area of the floor pan ?

Hook is welded to the bar, and the bar bolts into the existing subframe fixings for the rear "diffuser".

Do you think they strong enough to take a pull out of gravel?

Looks very neat, but as Nev has asked just wonder how strong the weld is

I can't totally remember what those floorpan fixings look like, but I'd be a bit concerned if a fixing intended to hold 10 KG of floorpan would take circa 15,000 Newtons of sideways force being dragged sideways out of a gravel pit.

Hopefully though, you wont ever end up in a gravel trap !

Expected some scepticism :) The weld looks very strong but haven't and won't do any potentially destructive testing until I need to be pulled out by it :) It bolts straight through the subframe Nev... Elise Parts and the like sell hooks designed to use the exact same fixing point but on one side rather than two. Summary at this stage has to be that it is unproven, but from my perspective, I am more comfortable with this than I was with the last one I had. Time will tell and I will be sure to report back :) thumbsup

Tat also sold a double bolt version with the same approach. Not many sold due to pricing, but i liked the concept.

UPDATE:

Fitted an extension to the air intake to move the filter further into the ear to get it out of the hot engine bay... consists of a giant home made p-clip, a few off the shelf p-clips, an angle of tube, then cut to size and new bead rolled, a few bits of silicone, 2 home made brackets and a few repair links.  I am generally really happy with the function, but having fired it up earlier... it is hardly a shock, but it makes a noise like a chain rattling :) ...I need to come up with an alternative hanging mechanism, ANSWERS ON A POSTCARD :)

Also, replaced the NSR pads as they were disintigrating (CL5+) and slider gaters as they were pinched.  Put her away for now and I'll do the other side one evening next week.  Also, adjusted the damping setting on all 4 corners.

Bloody hell my VX has been garaged pretty much all its life and looks as though it's been parked in the sea :) I will get round to doing a full strip and coat at some point.

Maybe mount a 1" sticking out boss on the carpet covering the bulkhead (sing rivnuts) and then fix the lower bracket you already have with a bolt through it's eyelet onto the boss? Have to consider engine movement and if there is enough flex of the system, possibly using a rubber bobbin for the connection from boss to lower bracket.

Started off using one but wanted to over engineer it :) You are right... I'll revert to that until I think of something more 'elegant' thumbsup

Lose the alloy plates and use an ARB drop link. Or if you want the posh version, a tie rod and couple of ball joints or better yet, rose joints.

Replaced the OSR pads and slider gaters.

Also considered further, what I use to hang the air filter... down to:

1) Cable tie

2) Twisted length of aluminium

3) Thin wire rope

I vote good old cable tie: costs 10p, takes 1 minute to install, leaving you both money and time to go and drive :)
