My parents worked in Kuwait in the late 70's, early 80's, where there was a big choice of American cars and petrol was about 2p a gallon.
I was thinking Trans Am, Corvette - or at least a Chevy Impala.
Instead he bought one of these - new. A 'kin toyota cressida. Even a Morris Marina has more car-isma.
We don't speak to each other anymore.

I remember my mum owning an Astra (a blue C reg) but the first car I can really remember was a Cavalier that broke down constantly - F943 NJE. After that she had a Mondeo for about six months (M131 DEG) before she upgraded to a Mercedes C200 with the worst automatic gearbox you could ever imagine.
In my memory my dad has had a Carlton, a Ford Granada Scorpio (not the really ugly one, the previous incarnation) and since then has had four A6 Avants and two A4s.
They currently share a Q5 (3.0 TDi) and an A4 (3.2 FSI). The latter is quite good fun actually
*ETA the fourth A6 Avant, which lasted about two weeks before my mum insisted he got rid of it. They have always had big petrol engines and he got a new 2.7 TDi. Literally traded it in two weeks old. I dread to think how much that cost him.

Lotus Elan Lotus Europa. Triumph Dolomite Sprint, first production 16 valver. Faster than a Mexico Escort when not being constantly repaired and cornered like a cow on roller skates.

My mum ran various things, working at a dealership it was often whatever had some tax on it; Subaru brat to Porsche 924, TR7, Fiat X1/9, Sierra 2.9i GLS 4x4, and plenty of dull stuff.
Dad worked elsewhere, had a company car but he got to choose;
Mk2 RS2000 (red)
Mk2 RS2000 (yellow)
Mk2 RS2000 (red)
XR3 (yellow)
XR4i (white)
XR4x4 (Mk1) (grey)
XR4x4 (Mk2) (red)
Sapphire Cosworth 2WD (magenta)
Sapphire Cosworth 2WD (flint grey)
Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 (magenta)
E34 M5 3.6 (possibly avus blue) - around this time I turned 17, having been allowed to drive Dad's car on an airfield, I was no longer allowed anywhere near the drivers seat!
Discovery 300TDi ES (tractor)
Then I sold him a Mondeo ST24 RSAP 5dr (panther black)
E36 318ti Compact
E39 530i SE
E270CDi Avantgarde
E280CDi Avantgarde
E60 520d SE
F10 520d MSport
Some great stuff early on, but then economics and more expensive company car tax regimes set in
