I assume it's an OEM clip to it may be strong. If I go to brands in january I'll take jubilee's with me to sway over if it's not!

Did brands in Jan, good day.

Did Oulton yesterday, possibly a new favourite UK track. That place is great!

Video of me following my mateam in his stripped our Astray running about 360bhp

Quickest lap of the day once it had dried. 2.04:60 I got slowed down on one of the last corners so I think I may have got into the 2.03s if that hadn't happen.

Looks fully committed. I take Oulton for granted as it's on my doorstep but I've over driven it!

It seems to be a really easy track to get comfortable with and all seems to flow nicely. Caldwell next to test!

I'm there for my third race and will prob do the track day on the Thurs or Fri before, I can't remember the date at the min though. I think the marines are paying for a trackday at some other point too though so will prob do Caldwell for that one too.

Am definitely no professional racing driver but having done Cadwell a number of times a few hinters we have learnt would be;

-Hall bends - Take as much kerb on the left hander as possible

-Coppice - Let off at the end of the straight and let the incline scrub off the speed instead of braking

-Gooseneck - Take as much kerb on the left (Just be careful you don't get too unsettled, it can get you!)

Let me know when your going and ill try and pop down to watch.

Dan

Now I've calmed down I can say how the weekend went.
After crashing while practicing on Thursday and taping the car back together I got a new set of tyres on for practice/quali yesterday morning.
It was chaos, in a 15 minute session I had a cars wheel roll down the hill towards me, 2 cars t boned each other, a 5 minute safety car and then I hit hall bends a full speed finding coolant all over the track.
Qualified 8th with 2 class C cars ahead of me.
The race started very well and I made my way up to 4th and 1st in class not being helped by a BMW I was lapping refusing to get out the way and not a blue flag in sight.
About 8 minutes from the end it all went wrong, I was heading down the straight and the marshalls were holding out a black flag with orange circle out (problem with the car and to pit immediately) I missed the miniscule number they were holding up with it but I was the only car on the straight at the time and as my car was taped together I pitted on the next lap. It wasn't for me 🙁. I came back out in 8th overall and 2nd in class with 2 laps to go. Managed to finish 7th overall after the car the flag was for had 15 seconds added to his time for track limits (no mention of the black and orange flag he ignored or the solid black flag he ignored after that).
I got the 3rd fastest laptime and where I was before my mistake shows what me and the car is capable of.
On to Rockingham next in September.

Once the videos are sorted I'll get them up.

Interesting day!  Are you still a marine or a civvy racer now?

I known what you and the car are capable of (annoyingly) , racing really does seem an expensive and slightly frustrating pastime (though I'm sure exhilarating).

Good luck at Rockingham.

Still getting paid but not going back to work now. So for the time being racing is still classed as "at work".

The race

https://youtu.be/kNC1oW9dchA

The BMW about half way though is bein lapped but won't move. You can tell I ease off before pitting for the second time (as I think there might be something wrong with the car).

And you can tell I'm pissed off and pushing hard for the last few laps but keep hitting back markers.

Rockingham,
Stuck my normal quali amount of fuel in and went out. That's not enough fuel for the long left hander so on my second lap it started cutting out. After it did it again on the third I retired. Managed 17th out of 31 in that first lap though.
Race 1, I spent the whole race shifting up at 5k and lifting and coasting where I could to try and avoid fuel starvation at the end of the race. Started 17th and finished 6th.

The second race was 20 minutes so I could go flat out. Although it had chucked it down. Looked dry but it wasn't,  it was like an ice rink. The few people that did put wets on had a massive advantage exiting the corners. It was a handicap race so you are released, and slower cars having laps already in the bag, so that theoretically everyone should cross the finish line at the same time. It didn't quite work because of the weather.
I finished 7th being pipped at the sprint to the line by 2 M3s and was 0.03 seconds behind an mx5

Rockingham Infield is notoriously slippery in damp and wet conditions, very challenging on normal tyres.

The track looks quite narrow, I'd be scared to overtake anyone with all that zigging and zagging around.
