So, with bedford approaching rapidly (15th Feb) ive pulled my finger out.
2 jobs ive never done in 6 years of vx ownership today, rear clam and engine out. The rear clam took about an hour and a half.
Posted Image

And then getting the engine and box out took another 3.5 hours. Found a huge crack in my exhaust manifold so now am in desperate need of one of those. Check your sheds please people!
Posted Image

Also noticed, that both the gearboxes have their code sprayed onto them using a stencil. So if the white stickers gone you can still ID the box!

Have to add, getting all that done on your own and using a fork lift to remove the engine is interesting!

Looks like you had fun! Removing the rear clam is a job I'm not looking forward to!

Be interested to hear how you find the zafira box!

I actually had no issues with the rear clam at all. It had been off before in its life but once I'd found all the bolts they were well behaved.

Yeah I'm looking at the rear window. I'm nipping down to poole to use their tyre machine in a minute so I'm going to ask if they have some polycarbonate I can have. Also noticed I need a new auxillary belt tensioner.

Didnt get as much done as I wanted today. Was hoping to get the engine back in.
Went down to borrow the tyre machine and one of the RS-Rs wouldnt seat on the rim. Even with 3 of us trying it! Left it pumped up high and under the heater at work to see if it pops over night :(

Need to get a new tensioner this weekend.

Got both chains replaced and the balancers removed. Then fitted the lightened fly and new box. Only took one picture.

So jobs to do:
Oil filter
Oil change
Gearbox oil change
New manifold on
New aux tensioner
Refit engine
Refit clam
Hope it works

The front rsr on mine took something ridiculous like 100 psi to seat it fully.

Garage put 140psi and it wouldnt go. Left it with them and they took it off lubed to the max then it went on with 120psi. Then balanced, not bad for £2. Scrap yard won't sell me a tensioner so picking one up from eurocarparts for £53. Originally wanted £80 but thankfully Ican talk a good ddiscount!

Well i headed back to work early today to do some more on the car. Got back at 19.30 and by 21.30 i had changed the oil filter (piece of p*ss and didnt need the seals!), fitted the new aux tensioner, refitted the engine and connected it all up!

I then fully drained the  new gearbox and engine and refilled with shiney new oils. Was nice to see the oil coming out the box was nice and red.

Refitted the oil manifold as the new one isnt here yet, reconnected the battery and started it up (with crossed fingers) started perfectly.

Tided up and left it at that.

So, to do:

Oil filter
Oil change
Gearbox oil change

New manifold on
New aux tensioner
Refit engine

Test the new box

HCBs
Refit clam

Fit the undertrays

Finish the front splitter
Hope it all works

Would like to tick a few more off that tomorrow, Saturday is getting closer!

In the middle of a fork lift course at the min and managed to nip to the workshop, stick the wheels on and take it for a spin. Gearbox feels spot on but only got it to 3rd, clutch needed bleeding a bit more, and I need some fuel. New manifold is on, clutch is bled and part way through doing the HCBs now.

Finished the HCBs, fueled it up and took it for a longer drive. Feels great now. NAs never give the push turbos do but it actually feels quick now! (Not fast car quick, but reasonably quick)

Cleaned out the airfilter, its some carbon bodied thing, it literally had handfulls of dirt coming out of it :/ washed it out and left it to dry but dont have any oil to re-oil it. I have some at home though.

As the housing to the filter was secured with shoe laces, ive secured that properly now.

Oil filter
Oil change
Gearbox oil change

New manifold on
New aux tensioner
Refit engine

Test the new box

HCBs
Refit clam

Fit the undertrays

Finish the front splitter
Hope it all works

Couple more hours done. Finished the air filter, gearbox breather, refitted the clam, fitted the under trays and all the lights and bootlid. Just have the hardtop and front splitter to finish. If the guys haven't done my bits for the splitter by tomorrow I'm going to have to go down to poole and use their guillotine myself.

So, after a bit of head knocking my bits were done so I finished the splitter. Its fitted to the car but the paint is still drying!
Just the hardtop to fit then its ready for a very wet bedford!
