Looking at options of streaming Mp3's in my Boxster which has a standard cdr24 stereo.

Annoyingly there is no aux connection so have been looking at options, cheapest seems to be a Parrot system which will allow me to make calls etc and also stream music from my iphone.  Short of that there is the option of replacing the stereo £400+ or getting an additional connection box where i could plug the ipod in which i dont really fancy.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of Parrot system?

Check to see whether Dension make a compatible Gateway box for your stereo. It would surprise me, if they don't have at least the basic iphone mp3 input through the CD changer connections.

I doubt sound reproduction will be of a comparable quality to a proper Aux input but an FM transmitter that plugs into either your iPhone or fag lighter socket will be far the cheapest way to stream your music. Available on eBay from about £1.90!

I have fitted four of the Parrot MKi9200 units, in my Focus (previously in Clio197), wife's CR-V, MIL's Civic and sisters MINI. They are a good unit. The sound quality is very good.

In the Focus I am using a CD changer emulator to provide an Aux facility, with good results. Doing the same in the Honda's gets some interference from the alternator despite using a ground loop isolater, I believe due to the parrot's signal out needing to be boosted considerably.

For calls, they work really well. For iPod/iPhone direct connection very good, though less flexible if using application audio. I just tend to use bluetooth streaming for mine, this gives you track info and track shift via the parrot.

Gripes?

- interference on some cars when using the line-out via a CDC emulator

- if you use the Parrot as an amp (AKA mute on streaming, which we do in the Civic and MINI) then while the sound quality is very good, you have to remember not to use the stereo when you want to adjust the volume

- with Mute on Streaming you miss out on traffic announcements

- lack of integration with factory remote, though this can be remedied with the expensive Parrot Unika add on.

- I have had some issues with poor connection within the Parrot multiplug, this is probably more down to me than the device though.

Positives

+ great sound quality for both music and calls

+ discrete and easy to install

+ intuitive and easy to use

+ discrete

I have a mechless Alpine HU with a Parrot box in my VX, the MKi9200 is more versatile but the Alpine works with the stereo remote. I would prefer a new integrated head unit, but this is a much more expensive proposition and you then have to be very mindful of where you park, removing the fascia, etc. which doesn't really suit my sheddy "leave it anywhere" Focus.

Anything more I can tell you, just shout.
