Well Me and my Dad finally got the VX out on the track where it belongs. It was a quite and experience for us considering we've only had it since November and I've only been able to be ensured on it since April! Since then we've been working on the car preparing it for a day like this and what a day, couldn't have asked for more out of it, it just felt so at home around brands and we had such an excellent time.

Only had a couple of problems with it apart from finding out we lost the locking wheel nut the day before! We reckon the next mod on the list is bigger break disks with a chance for more cooling as we found that adding a passenger to the mix would make us lose so much power from the breaks after a few corners but as well as this we were having a bit of a problem with heat, out on the track the car was fine but after the last cool down lap the car would start cooking itself once we got back to the paddock.

Anyway issues aside we had an awesome day and the photography guys there got some nice snaps of us.

Already want to book another day

- Sam

Worry about brake fluid and pads before the discs. What are you using?

You dont need bigger discs, you need to change the pads so you're on the brakes less. I did a 1 hour race at Brands on Saturday with std discs with no problems

Pagid Rs14 pads all around and some off the shelf brake fluid marked for track use but I think it might only be DOT4.

Did you put the handbrake on when you parked up after coming off track?

No not at all, just left it in gear. The sessions were only 15 minutes long each time and it wasn't a problem at all with just 1 of us in the car.

Oem discs more than upto the job, as stated decent fluid and pads. Plenty of well tested options depending on ratio if road / track Worth a super bleed ;-) I never had an issue on track tbh and I like to work them hard :-) DG

I could never make my fat ass + tubby iron + even heavier passenger work with stock discs/calipers.

That said with pagids all round i'm surprised you have issues "after a few corners". When you stop would the car seem like it was still braking a little? - Stuck pistons is a possibility.

Just normal Kuhmo road tyres but they have plenty of tread and were getting nice and hot during the sessions.

Were you on the brakes for long periods or short hard bursts? I can't notice my brakes fading when I'm two's up.

Must admit it wasn't on my mind after we stopped as the first thing I noticed after my dad had been driving it hard with me as a passenger was the smoke/steam from the brakes. rallly

So change in driver was the cause. Different style of braking cooked them. I'd get that fluid changed ASAP.

ABS was active, we do have a cutoff switch but the instructor I had in my first session (Ed Morris?) suggested we turn it back on just so it would be one less thing to worry about on our first time.

Braking was generally hard and short bursts I guess with the exception of paddock hill due to the speed we were carrying. It's possible that different drivers and driving styles might've contributed but he's done a few track days before so he was alot more confident out there then I was.

Change the fluid because of the fact they've since been cooked? Like I said we've changed it already since purchasing the car 6 odd months ago.

Cooked fluid -> Change

Once you cook it once, its stuffed and will cook again with much less effort. Did your pedal go to the floor at any point though? (This would indicate cooked fluid).

What you describe sounds like overheated pads which is unlikely with those pads!

First hard heat cycle will burn off binding agents in pads and sometimes gives some and weird feel - they should be find the next session though.

Assuming 195/45 tyres - ABS will likely not work properly, this is sure. (As chill indicates)

The Pedal never went to the floor and the ABS didn't give us any problems. When it was remapped at MMG Liam mentioned that we had and ABS fault on all 4 wheels which he cleared for us so we assume  that it is barely working but never shows the fault light?
