Looks great well done, I did a very similar trip last year and loved it. What did you think of the stelvio? I thought furka and the grimsell were better! Those roads are perfect for the vx though. Best holiday I've ever had! And looks like you loved it too! My car got pretty dam hot at the top of stelvio where the air was so thin so not surprised to see a radiator go, what a shame. Brilliant photos! Wish I'd taken some better ones but all I wanted to do is drive lol!

Hi Andy, it was your videos that inspired me! Stelvio is definitely overrated. We went up the side from Bormio and I quite enjoyed that bit as nearer the top it was possible to overtake. The "famous" side was kind of boring as the hairpins force you to almost stop.  I ended up catching a slower convoy so would stop until I could see a car catching me then push on again but it did get tiring. Furka, Grimsell and Nufenen were brilliant. The roads near St Motitz were epic too with nice open sweeping corners. Just wish the Gopro had been more reliable as it stopped recording loads of times so missed some good footage. I know John wants to go back so probably will do in a couple of years time.

thanks for documenting that. One of the reasons I bought my VX was to do a trip very much like this... Shame about the burst rad (glad I just bought myself a pro alloy).

Do you have your trip planned out on google maps? Or can you, would be good to see where you drove, I'd like to a similar route.

I like your center mirror! where can I get one?

Its pretty awesome that you ran into another VX owner. Love vx's for that. Looks a awesome trip. How long did it take you?

I did have to original trip but I'll try and post up the amended one in a bit. We took the Thursday night ferry and returned on the Friday night ferry the following week.

Mirror isn't cheap though...

That looked a brilliant trip, a real shame about John's radiator though! Glad you had fun! Would you take the VX round the 'ring next time?

Probably not Chris. I think I would be too worried to push on as the speeds approaching the faster corners would be a lot higher and the barriers are very close. The swift was so well set up(read safe) and gripped like mad in the dry. Could have done with a bit more power to pull you up the hills but we really enjoyed ourselves and still felt safe even when pushing the car on.

Stelvio is definitely overrated.

Massively overrated. Half a dozen front clam scraping hairpins is more than enough before the novelty wears off. Think I'd rather drive it in a DSG equipped Golf GTi or similar, rather than the VX.

Just done our annual euro trip, I was in my diesel BM, so not really a mountain pass holiday. 2750 miles & only saw 2 Swiss registered VX's in the whole trip & they were being trailered through Germany (together). Did get to meet the infamous Burt from Seloc in Monaco though :D

Glad to have done Stelvio and whenever Top Gear of 5th Gear etc go there I can smugly say I've been thus impressing everyone within earshot...

The views from the top were the best thing really.

In his 2-11 Steve? :)

Has he got rid of his 340R then? Didn't last long, given the length of the search.

Met Burt and Julie at a tollbooth in France.

340R, bearing in mind I'm sort of West Country, his Brizzle accent is quite something! The 340R was still turning heads & getting it's picture taken despite all the 'normal' stuff parked outside the casino.

Ahh that's very nice to hear, thank you. Those videos alone made the gopro worth buying lol. I often find myself watching them back. Such a beautiful place. Yeah totally agree about the stelvio, we did the opposite to you, came up the famous side which was stupidly tight and then came down the fun Borneo side.

I had to plug my gopro in to the charger as it wouldn't last long at all! They do seem a bit temperamental at times. But you certainly got some good footage. Have you got the 2 or 3, the wind noise seemed far better on yours than mine.

I'd love to do another trip next year or 2015 and would be nice to do it with another vx, so count me in! We did the mercedes factory in Stuttgart, ran out of time so couldn't do the Porsche one. Was it good? We have a family friend there so stayed with them for a few days. I must admit though outbid all the countries Germany was me least favourite. Switzerland is just stunning! And I'd love to see more of Italy.

Please share more photos if you have a Flickr account or anything.

Andy.
