I must be massively underinsured then. I'd be over the moon if my insurance company settled at half that value and even telling them it was worth £13k sounded faintly ridiculous at the time.

I just don't want to be in a situation where an insurance company decides my VX is worth £5k because thats what glass' guide says is "market value".

Therefore an agreed value of £24k would prevent that situation? It would also mean a replacement clam/headlights could be justified rather than written off etc.

I dunno, now you're making me question if I've had the right thing quoted.

I'm sure you're right. I've certainly spent easily that much on the car and could probably make up a decent chunk of the deficit on exhaust systems.

I just have little faith in insurance companies doing anything that isn't in their interests when it comes to settling and I struggle with the whole "agreed" valuation thing vs actual value thing. If you put your car up for sale tomorrow, I assume you wouldn't stick it up at £24k (at least not with any expectation of selling it)?

no , I think you have done the right thing , Classic Line offered me the same if I could get off my bum and get a specialist to appraise mine.

I don't think it's linked to resale values.

It's more about "How much would I have to spend (in one go) to get a replacement VX220 to the same specification as the one it replaces?"

Also, I'd be paying a premium (excuse the pun) for getting the value agreed up front.

If it was a "market value" policy then I'd be paying less up front?

Made absolutely no difference in the cost of mine whether it was insured at £7k or £14k, so not sure there is really a premium for it.

Based on Steve's point, I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a "report" or valuation from BoT or CourtenaySport up front for the file.

If you binned your car tomorrow and my car happened to be on the market for £12k they could put you in my car for half the cost of the "value" of yours and you'd be in an even better spec car. That's why the logic of the whole thing falls down for me.

But.... I wouldn't want your car...

It's not the right spec (over spec'd) and under used

Ignoring the colour :P

This is all hypothetical anyway... I'm not planning on binning my car and you're not selling yours, you're gonna bloody use it!

Quoted for my NA with 16/17 TD's on and not much else.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

| 1 Answer| £408 | £500 Excess | 12,000 Miles SDP | +Trackdays @£1,000 Excess, Approx +5% for Supercharged  |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

| Admiral | £328 | £400 Excess | 12,000 Miles SDP | 10yrs NCD, Exiting Customer                             |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So its an extra £80+ for track day cover + flexibility to change to charged when required.  Not bad but will need to think about it...

Is that because of some recent mods Mark, or just a jump in premium?

So its seems a bit of a PITA as far as document are concerned, sent my Driving Licence as requested plus authorisation for them to get my NCB from previous insurer.

Have since had a letter asking for me to provide NCB so have done so.

Now they want a copy of my MOT cert, surely this is a bit excessive and can be looked up online.

I am all for an easy life so thinking I should have gone for Admiral as cheaper plus less excess just not track-day cover but I don't drive balls out on track anyhow.

Don't know if anyone else has on here but seems plenty on SELOC have, one guy's just had to put in the first claim too - and is very happy with the way it was handled.

I'll be giving them a call about mine, probably this week, as it's due for renewal at the start of the year (with the added complication of a new SC car rather than a turbo and a non-fault accident to declare)
