Having an absolutely nightmare trying to get a new rear light for my VXT.  The clear outer plastic lense fell off while driving (hence I don't have it) two weeks ago.  As Vauxhall don't sell the lense separately, I have to buy a whole new unit (£301+VAT).

As if that wasn't bad enough, I can't even get the bloody thing ordered!!  Have called around a number of Vauxhall garages (most of which had absolutely no interest in helping) and finally settled on Go Vauxhall in Chislehurst (my nearest main Vauxhall garage and VX "specialist").  They don't have any rear lamps in stock and won't place the order for the lamp until I pay upfront in full for the part.  But they tell me that there are none in the UK at all and the part is on back order.  They have no idea when it will arrive but say it could be months.

Just to make things even worse, I want to use my Vauxhall Service Club 25% discount and £25 voucher to reduce some of the (astronomical) cost but they have absolutely no idea how to process those.

So the bottom line is that I am going to end up having to pay around £350 upfront for a part I may never even receive all because a £10 plastic lense fell off.  Joy.

Any tips/thoughts/ideas very welcome!!

Cheers

The lense is worth a bit more then £10

But with the NA and tubby lense being the same, and rear lenses hardly getting scratched, i would advise to try and find a used unit, split the lense, put it on your´s. and resell the remains for hobby guys (or keep in the attick).

Used rear units go up to 100 isch a piece max. Rear lenses can get milky sometimes, so get good pictures before forking out your monies.

Thanks Smiley.  As if by devine intervention, almost as soon as I posted I got a call back from Go Vauxhall Chislehurst saying they had managed to locate a new unit in Bolton that should arrive by the end of this week!  Will cost me c£245 as they have finally worked out how to apply my discount and voucher.  If it shows up and I can fit it easily myself (both big "ifs"!) then I'll be a very happy bunny.

It will also mean that I will probably have my old light unit (in perfect condition, other than obviously missing the clear plastic outer cover) available for sale.  Will post on that in due course...

Stick your head in the boot.

Just 1 plug to disconnect, and 4 bolts.

Then just carefull pull the lightunit off the car.

Then new unit back in.

DO NOT OVERTIGHT the nuts, Carefully allign the unit untill it fits the contours of the rear clam like the other unit.

(overtight compresses the foam part, and can let water in at first rainy day).
