Cant go wrong with an E36. I actually prefer them over the E46 which i found to be a little boring to drive. I'm sure the E46 M3 however is a different animal, one day i will add one to the collection.

I miss having a VX and a BMW, my e39 five series was great. Better to drive than the XJR.

Good thing about BMW's is that you can generally abuse them and it doesn't cost you much to keep them running. Certainly the older models and non-m models that is.

I've had an e46 and I have to agree, they just got fatter and slower. However a friend of mine has a stripped out e46 328 which is much more like it! Would also love to add an e46 m3 to the collection...mmmmmmmmmm

All M3's have ITBs although like you say the CSL is something of a rarity and will be a future classic. They still go for well over £20k now!

How does the e36 m3 compare speed wise to an e46 m3. Same power output aren't they?

e36 m3 EVO is 321 where E46 M3 is 343 (i think). There isnt a lot in it in the real word due to weight difference.

Yeh thats right. I believe the difference between a standard M3 and a CSL is a unique and vary expensive airbox. Brings out that intake roar even more.

Ah yes i know Sam from E46zone where i am a mod. That white E36 was a nail, lol, but i had some great use out of it and it taught me a LOT about my skill as a driver, plus for what i paid i cannot complain.

Its now been crushed sadly but it was well past it due and to be fair the engine still loves on somewhere!

Ahhhh I'm a member on the Zone aswell but haven't used it since I sold the e46. Thinking about another one for this winter as I loved having it for the last one I was a big fan of the white e36 and loved the wheels which turned out to be genuine didn't they?
