I am putting a Saab Lsj unit in mine end of September should be a straight swap. We are using the same ECU , It will be remapped after being run in.

useless for NA because it has low compression, you would need to replace the crank, rods and pistons to use it

Your main problem will be the different crank trigger pattern of the Saab engine. Solve that (LSJ ecu or modified crank trigger wheel) and anything is possible...

The cost will not be the same. The supercharger conversion is well known and easy to implement. Fitting a turbo engine to an NA car will have much more work, specifically wiring loom modification, new exhaust. The latter will add £1k to the cost of the conversion.

If you want to use the Saab B207 in its native turbo form, OBD Tuner is probably he easiest way to go. I think Peter already has basemaps for this set-up. Not sure what is used for boost control, but an external EBC should work I am told. You could use a Z22SE loom, coilpack etc.

You'd have to use the external trigger wheel and some other parts as mentioned above, and I'm not sure how well the standard manifold and turbo will fit (at least the clam will need chopped, unsure of subframe clearance), then exhaust mods, charge / inter cooling. The rest should be virtually the same as supercharging a Saab engine. If you got a cheap complete Saab (or Z20NET)engine, installed a OBD-T on the ECU, sorted out the chargecooling (intercooler? :o), its doesn't have to be anymore expensive thana DIY SC conversion perhaps...

But I totally agree, SC is probably the best approach.

As somebody else said recently, "never build a car that can already be bought", or something along those lines. If you want an I4 2.0 turbo, buy a VXT. Simples.

Its the additional tuning that the saab engine allows that interests me as i believe that 400hp+ is achievable ?

Not on a drop in B207 engine, it's not. I think you're referring to the older generation B204 type engines, which bear no resemblance to the B207/Z22SE/LSJ/L61 engines.

Is there a guy on here called Nev that i heard had a saab conversion done and is running over 400hp but im unsure as to what engine he used?

There is but his isn't a Saab engine. It's an uprated Vauxhall Z20LET with (relatively) mahoosive turbo and 500bhp+. Check out the Projects area for his build thread.

why 400bhp , why not think about how much torque you want , and what the gearbox can cope with , and let the bhp follow the torque curve
