Its the additional tuning that the saab engine allows that interests me as i believe that 400hp+ is achievable ?As somebody else said recently, "never build a car that can already be bought", or something along those lines. If you want an I4 2.0 turbo, buy a VXT. Simples.
The liners in the saab engine are a limiting factor breaking at around 400 bhp. If you want to go over that with the B207 the its time to sell a kidney.

Well... you can always fit a 3rd generation Ecotec block if the liners are holding you back...

the complete saab turbo B207 has been fitted into a speedster, so it can be done, but you will probably need a standalone ecu to control it.
However it would be cheaper to sell your na and buy a vxT, it will certainly be worth more too
As Mr T has already said, don't build what you can already buy .......

Any pictures of one of those blocks about yet? Is there a price for one available too?

Interestingly this article

Has OEM liners surviving o 750bhp! Its the head gasket failing that seems to be an issue. Failure may be down to a flexing block so fire rings and a copper gasket and additional studs but still stock liners!

i really dont see the point of this conversion.i traded in my saab 93 aero for the vx. i had it tuned at abbot racing in essex to 290 bhp(ish) for not much money.... but you still had to change the intercooler,exhaust,filter,plugs,wastegate,re-map, re-map and another re-map........ and it was still a problem......so why not just save yourself the grief and hassle and go buy a vxt??? ready made for the job, roughly the same bhp as standard and tune that??
job done...

What about a Honda type R install -since its been done for the Elise and parts are available that might fit ( e.g expensive bits like exhausts) , wouldn't that be a easy route to lots of umph ? lots of advice out there - has it already been done?
Putting a blower on these to get more power (relaible torquey 300Bhpish) seems to be established too.

People seem to talk about swapping engine model/type/manufacturer in their cars as if it were a simple weekend job; its not. Even for people who really know what they're doing there is a hell of a lot of stuff to think about and do.

Not really following this post at all. Whats the relevence? The engines are being bought without turbos they are seen as a fresh cheap option for replacing the z22se's with a look to supercharge.i really dont see the point of this conversion.i traded in my saab 93 aero for the vx. i had it tuned at abbot racing in essex to 290 bhp(ish) for not much money.... but you still had to change the intercooler,exhaust,filter,plugs,wastegate,re-map, re-map and another re-map........ and it was still a problem......so why not just save yourself the grief and hassle and go buy a vxt??? ready made for the job, roughly the same bhp as standard and tune that?? job done...

It's mainly people with NA who have or want to SC, the engine bolts straight onto gearbox, same loom and ECU with some smaller mods.
Makes even more sense if you're planning a new engine altogether.

It's a lot of work and custom bits, there's a guy on the forum in Europe doing this at the moment and it's lots of custom bits to be made.
Even now the Elise conversion is work in progress with parts being refined and updated.
Compared to upgrading a NA/SC or Turbo it's very costly.
