Hi All,

I have had my brake pipe blow in the section that runs under the passenger sill!  Doe anyone have any experience replacing this section?

I have removed both front and rear clam and after removing the air box I will have good visibility of the rear section of the pipe but have absolutely no visibility of the front section!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Simon

There's an access hole under the plastic cover Fezza eluded to.  get yourself a makeup mirror or webcam so you can see down the sill.

Cut out faulty section and work the magic on the ends - bolts in job done

Did the section on driver sill to braide brake line- lots of nice bends :) tank removed to get access but all good

The amount of VX220's now with growing corrosion between subframe and chassis / brake lines (usually sat on that nice wet sponge area) along with earth issues is really coming common

I think that's the best solution - replace with braided flexible hose down the sill.

And for anyone concerned but not yet at the point of replacing, reach in past the rear wheel arch liner and remove the foam between the heater pipe and brake line - that traps water and leads to corrosion.

Thanks for advice all!

So basically:

- flexi pipes from the front bonnet join to the sill behind the front wheel (assuming this is not too wide to push through from the top)

- Copper pipe from this point to visible rear section (straight section under the sill)

This assumes that I will be able to get my spanners in to tighten the joint in the sill behind the front wheel through the inspection hole in the sill........ Does this sound achievable??

Sound be able to get the spanners in, there's plenty of room. i widened the hole (cut out more fibreglass) on my NA sill so I could get my hand in without leaving all my skin on the sill.

Just to finish the thread...

I replaced the rear line by creating a join behind the front wheel (in the sill).  I fed the brake pipe from the rear and used the access hole that can be found by removing the sill cover.  It was actually one of the easiest jobs I have done on the VX!

Good work. I'm now off to take the glass fibre out of the drivers side sill that is there to insulate the heater pipe. I never considered the wicking effect that it may have!
