Yay, that's 2 potentially 3 soon from how many sold?
at least ten in the UK and at least six in Europe, all the UK 2.2 conversions are up and running, just the 2.0 engines are a bit slow in the UK Fezz

is this also a good base for a decent n/a? i know that pistons have to be changed but from what i know from now is that head is not really a good point to start. does anybody knows it better? neal maybe? 2.0 which revs up to 7600?
It can be, but the cams are rubbish for both NA and SC
The beauty of the Saab engine is it's brand new, so no bore wear and everything is new except if converted to a 2.2 then a used crank is fitted.
The Saab cylinder head is far superior to the z22se cylinder head, stronger and does not suffer from spark plugs cracking the coolant system inside the head.
2.0 should be safe to rev to 8000 rpm or 9000rpm if balanced

Are these still available brand new? And if so where from/ how much? Wouldn't mind purchasing one and doing a 'light' build on it before fitting..

ha, too early for that. the car's been dumped at my parents since July without an engine. New one should be going in when I can buy a tasty exhaust in April
Old engine:
But it did die overtaking a lambo, so I have no regrets.

If your going to do it do it right Was it the valve or piston hitting it ??
Valve collet fretted, had around 1mm of play all the way down to Le Mans and almost all the way back. Finally died on the M11 when the valve dropped a bit too far.
