What exactally is this piston slap that everyone bangs on about? I mean I know what its but I've the (apparently) nasty low comp Wisco pistons for about 15k miles and have never noticed anything out of the ordinary at startup.

no idea either, I've had three forged engines in mine, no piston slap and zero oil consumption

Should sound like this at cold startup.

But apparantly not always?

the wiseco pistons have a Teflon skirt coating to prevent piston slap.

I've never heard a forged z22se sound like that, that's terrible and I would not be happy to build an engine sounding like that

Which is great for the first 500 miles until all the ptfe comes off and causes 3rd body abrasive wear.

A decent coating should stay on just fine.  I've had several sets of pistons that have been coated and its still been there at the next tear down.  The only problem I've had has been from a local coater, factory coatings should be fine.

The break in coating is only to avoid a catastrophe on the first piston expansions and has nothing to do with piston slap.

Piston slap and oil consumption are not related too. Many well built forged engines would have a bit higher than usual piston to bore clearance (gives a few more hp), and would slap badly at cold, without any negative effect after a few seconds heating up. I agree it could sound to some hears like sh*t or like an old wreck, but apart from that and the slightly higher induced wear when there's a lot of heat cycles, there's nothing wrong about it

What bhp is this engine standard and is it a 2.0. Also would this engine fit with the 4.17 zafira final drive ?

the engines for sale are basically bare 2.0 tall blocks, they need the supercharged parts to make them run and then would be around 230 bhp with the saab camshafts (which are shite for bhp)

If you added some LSJ camshafts then power would be around 280bhp for the 2.0 engine, converted to a 2.2 around 300bhp

And the B207 engine bolts directly to the 2.2 F23 gearbox in the vx220, whether that's a 4.17 or the standard 3.95 doesn't make any difference, the bolt pattern is the same.

I think we need to look at calling a close and ordering soon. We have enough for the £960 price which is still a good saving. Should we say by Sunday everyone needs to be confirmed?
