Thanks Nick, yep i'm thoroughly fed up with it at the moment.  I don't know why, but I was under some sort of delusion that i'd just swap it over and it would be OK.  I should have known better!

Hopefully will get the compression test soon to get the readings, confirm what we already know, and then contact the suppliers again and see what they are going to do about it.

Ali, have you contacted them at all yet?

Yes, they want to speak to the mechanic who fitted the engine to rule everything out before authorising any warranty repairs or replacement.  Which is why I need to get the compression test done, so that a mechanic can call them with the readings and argue the toss about getting it replaced.

sounds like your starter isn't even coming into contact with the flywheel....

I've turned my engine over many times without spark plugs in (to get oil flowing), and its still a lot more "resistance" than that

edit: does the aux belt/pulley turn when you're cranking like that?

Can you see the crank moving As above I'm not convinced the starter is turning anything

bump bump :)

In other news, I took the cam cover off my old engine and the chain had jumped slightly on that, but at least that one still started lol. The car is going to a local garage at the weekend and then the call to the engine supplier will be made on Monday. Thanks everyone for your time and input, I'll keep you posted!

So your old engine may still be ok ?

Good luck with the local garage, hope they can sort it,
