Well that's a positive I think. You've now given them a kick up the ass and it sounds like they've responded. They take the engine back and should make good.

Take some decent pictures in case they make damage to say it was you.

Better that they look it over at the garage & decide on their position rather than take it away Also take pictures which clearly show that the "seals" painted on by them are still intact

I was getting quite wound up thinking about this at lunchtime. I cant even think of a way, no matter how idiotic that you could lose all compression by missfitting.

Extremely annoying. One of the biggest scrap yards in europe is on my doorstep. Motorhog. So of you want to use them as an engine option if you get your money back instead of a new engine from them then I could help with picking it up.

Spot on JT, even IF (highly improbable), as they said, it was a flywheel/starter tolerance issue, it would simply jam the starter or strip teeth off the starter or fly gear. I hope you have success with your Visa Debit refund Ali, the sellers sound like a lost cause :( Really

Will take lots of pictures yes, good plan.

I hope it gets sorted out this week, Ideally i'd like to have a crack at fitting another engine this weekend.

I don't think there is any other option but to let them take it away, but as has been advised above, you do need to be very aware of them 'finding' some fault when they have it back in their possession which they will blame upon you.

Plenty of pictures and perhaps a few 'markings' of your own.

So the breakers have got the engine back on Monday of this week and have sent it for an engineers report.  I called them before for an update, and was told they don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's just that it's been sat with the oil drained off and the valves might have stuck......

Oh really? i'm pretty sure I told them that about 5 weeks ago, fucknuggets.

I queried that, and they said it's gone to an independent but who knows!  I would imagine that if it went to small claims they'd need to produce it?

anywhos, should find out either way tomorrow!

todays news.....

The timing chain tensioner has cracked causing slack in the chain, they're still not admitting liability for the damage but they have bought a new timing chain kit and are fitting it tomorrow.  Now, I think that if they genuinely thought I was to blame they wouldn't be paying for the parts and work to be done.

I have said I would like my money back, the guy is going to speak to the big boss man for me but they are within their rights to offer to make good by means of a repair or replacement.  If they say I can't have my money, and the only options are to have this engine back with new chain fitted or to have a different engine from them, then maybe it's better to just accept this one back?

Or do I take it back and sell it on ebay as used with the chain replaced? then use the money to buy something else?

my head is pickled with it :(

If the chain has slipped wouldn't that have fooked the valves and possibly the piston tops get damaged ? So fitting a chain kit us not the answer unless the heads coming off to sort the valves 😟

I would ask to see the engine running after they have fixed it to save you the time of putting it back in the vx, To take it out again and tell them you want a other 90 day warranty, Good luck with it Ali
