Hi Steve,  Didn't get a new coil pack, it was just the block.  The rev counter doesn't move when it's trying to start.  If it was moving, what would that indicate?

you should check the following, in no specific order;

blue and black plugs behind the coolant tank - spray some contact cleaner on them

MAP sensor

throttle body plug

ecu plugs

remove injector rail and using cardboard ensure you really have fuel going into the engine (how 2 mentioned earlier in this thread)

eml codes via opcom or a code reader

there is a small black capacitor near the coilpack, ensure the single black wire is not damaged and shorting out on the cylinder head - this will stop it running.

crank sensor plug is connected - use a mirror unless you want to pull the inlet manifold off .....

cam timing is correct - get piston 1 or 4 to tdc and check chain sprockets position http://www.z22se.co....81/#post-125869

Ali, if you want my op-com lead I'll be over bumcorn way tonight.  Fly out at stoopid o'clock in the morning.  I can also bring a spare coil pack if it helps?

Cheers for the offer Matt, I can't get to you to pick it up unfortunately, my current mode of transport is the bus.  I think JT has one, and a chap who lives by me has said he can send someone round with one!

Stuwy had to change the ECU, ring, and key transponders.

Yup, that was what I had to do with mine when it wouldn't start,  The symptoms are exactly the same and that's why I asked Ali to do the procedure above.  It will quickly tell you if the car is cutting fuel for the immobiliser.

Yep, there was no trickery with the looms, we just left everything as it was.

Above is the knock sensor as stated. Actually I wasnt very sure about how the cap by the coilpack was attached just as I was leaving, so definitely look at that. I wiggled it and it was loose. Ali is there a crank position sensor fitted to your old engine?

Not that I can see, if it's located under the inlet manifold then it would be on the same side of the engine as that image i've posted up?

Here's what's left of the old engine, just in case someone can spot anything!

Crank sensor fitted it looks like. I was pretty sure we didn't swap it.

It is possible (but unlikely) the one on the new engine is duff.

It wouldn't be top of my list.

hmmmm

the reason mine would not start is because I did not have a matching set of  ecu and transponder + chip. If all yours are still the same I would be pretty quick to rule that out..

The car can't forget chips with the battery disconnected..

I'm not much help Ali other then saying I hope it get sorted :borg:

Have you spoken to the people you bought the engine from and told them it wont start?

Have you got a multi meter to see if everything is getting power like it should?

Not saying your wrong, but mine was sat with no battery for a couple of years with no power going to it and when we came round to putting it back on the road it had to get trailered to Vauxhall for them to re-program it all. As per the OP it would crank but not fire.

I have just got back from another non-starting vx220 (also after an engine swap), the crank sensor wasn't plugged in

same symptoms as Ali's, fuel pressure etc, just not starting, NO ecu codes either , once the crank sensor was plugged in it started first press of the button
