best ask the engine supplier for your money back :(

easiest way to prove chain has jumped is to check the cam chain timing marks I mentioned about in post 63 in this thread.

I'm going to call them tomorrow first to see what the options are. my mate reckons if we give it a tow it might get going if the oil pressure gets up. He said if it's been left on its side then the oil will have drained off the valves. Worth a go before ripping it out again :S

do not tow start a z22se, the chain will jump.

The chain tensioner needs oil pressure to work correctly, PLEASE check the cam timing, it only takes 20 minutes and will prove if the chain has slipped.

remove coilpack

remove cam cover

remove spark plug from piston number 1

using a very long screwdriver inserted into plug hole, crank engine over with a 21mm spanner on the crank pulley bolt until TDC is reached

check the cam sprockets position with the picture below

the chain coloured links will probably not align, it's the position of the cam sprockets which is important, the exhaust (on the left) and inlet (on the right)should be roughly at the exast position as the pictures

If I open the engine up the supplier might not take it back?

compression test is the only option then, you should have about 11-13 Bar on a good engine

don't forget to open the throttle body for this test, keep foot to floor or jam it open

I'm stressing now that I'm going to end up with 2 useless engines and no money! If the compression test doesn't show the right/similar pressures what are my options?

90 days, am going to call them tomorrow but I would imagine the warranty is void if I open the engine casing. They've put little blobs of paint over the bolts etc so will be able to tell.

Ali just do the compression test get the results if its not ok. take it back , I know its a pain taking it back out but better that than getting a dud.

I presume you have a warranty on the new engine? Then I am sure if you get a mechanics report and/or evidence of major fault than you get a refund???

Hope it is nothing serious...... thumbsup

Fwiw I agree with you guys, if it makes good compression it can be worked with. I spent much of my youth in that scrapyard pulling things apart for my fiat pandas. Recogniced the initials on the engine. They were always fair. Also they have gone to extraordinary lengths marking the thing, you simply wouldnt do that and then be funny about a return.

It's not the crank sensor :( I have a mechanic with me who thinks there's valves stuck somewhere, as there is back pressure in the inlet manifold.

I've re-read twice and we've jumped immediately to 'kackered engine'.  We're a long way from that conclusion yet.  Persevere!  Engine swaps are never straightforward.
