Because sometimes (& don't ask how, ive no idea) it happens I bought a Pinto rally engine many years ago from a specialist breaker which was seen running and when I installed it in my kit car, after delivery by the supplier, I had the same symptoms as Ali. The supplier came to look at the installed engine and agreed that somehow the timing had slipped and not only took it back to rebuild, they removed it from the car & helped with the re-installation on bringing it back. Always give them a chance to prove their worth by putting things right before shouting from the roof topsSo why have they told her that it was a runner when it clearly wasent You have more patience than me Duncan I would be playing fcuk if I had changed a broken engine for a fcuked engineI wouldn't go that far just yet. They have given her a warranty so it's not in their interest so sell knackered engines. Ali - if you need anything just shout.I wouldn't want a other engine from them, Name and shame ali

Ive seen the video and listened to the sound.
My 1.6 Astra has sounded very similar in the past if i havnt started it right. First time it happened my battery was low and hearin the different turning over noise put the wind up me. I called the AA out.... He listened to the high pitched turnover and said the engine had flooded. Put a battery boost on and kept the engine turning for well over a minute before it finally spluttered to life and was running fine again. I since have done the same thing twice on my own and it eventually fires.
Im not saying that this is the answer but after hearing the video I thought Id let you know.
Hope you get the problem solved or a replacement engine sorted and get back on the road.
Regards Mike.

Works on PC Sounds like no resistance in engine to me ie no compression
Sadly, I agree

Hope you get it sorted Ali not much help from me but all I can say is keep at it, there are times when you hate these things with a passion ( I am at that point myself now) then you get to drive them and fall in love again.
it will be worth it in the end.
If it is a return of the engine, see if they will collect it for you and either give you a better/newer/running unit or some sort of compensation for your time and effort.

Thanks Nick, yep i'm thoroughly fed up with it at the moment. I don't know why, but I was under some sort of delusion that i'd just swap it over and it would be OK. I should have known better!
Hopefully will get the compression test soon to get the readings, confirm what we already know, and then contact the suppliers again and see what they are going to do about it.
