Hi chaps, I must say I'm gutted. Not been able to use the car for a week as the windscreen wiper came off and I couldn't get a replacement due to a unique fitting (shown below). I asked in the forum and people advised that I buy the Lotus S2 wiper arm. I bought if for £40 for from a breakers and went to fit it this morning and it does not fit!

Help as I really do not know what to do here.

Image 1 shows the original wiper arm on the right. Notice that the hole is a great deal larger than the S2 hole meaning that the S2 arm will not fit onto the wiper motor?

Image 2 shows the original problem, the VX220 wiper arm has some sort of shoe that doesn't fit any wiper arms? The Lotus arm of course has the traditional hook attachment, (the only attachment I have ever seen before this farce with my VX.

Not sure, why I was advised to buy an S2 wiper arm, please advise?

mine has the hook type as well. Can only assume people swapped the arm and the mechanism underneath for the different spline?

just be careful that the bare hook does not spring back to hit the windscreen

Thanks for the feedback, seeing the comments I have forced it onto the spline/motor. However, it sits about a cm proud and now the bonnet catches it when opened and closed. Grr, what a pain in the ass!

Not sure about the splined end, I have not taken my arm off, but I have that big bulky pin and clip fitting for the wiper end.  My car is a 2001.

Just take a tiny bit off the hole in the arm with a rat tail file.  The arms are made of soft metal and the spline is hard.  The arm is designed to be crushed on to the splines so you don't need to add splines to the inside of the arm to make it grip the post.

I'm sure I paid less than £40 for a brand new arm from a Lotus dealer, 3 years ago & that came with a new blade. You had to be careful fitting it though from what I recall. Of course I could do with a new blade now & god knows where the nearest Lotus dealer is now...

My original wiperarm was the same as yours, i also couldnt lift it past 40 degrees so washing the windscreen was a pita. I went to lotus and bought a brand new s2 wiper arm for £14.. Yes £14.. Fit perfectly, has the hook and i can lift it up 90 degrees where it will stay.
