Its something I keep considering but I never find a way that looks right in my eyes.  Having said that the rear clam will be fine as long as you glass a lip on to add some rigidity.  That'd be the least of my worries, getting it looking right is the toughest bit of that mod IMO.

What you need is someone who studied car design to come up with a treatment that gels correctly with the rest of the clam :ninja:

What, you mean like coupling coat?

Sorry probably shouldn't have used the word gels etc. Meant that the design of the cutout needs to match or immitate some of the other details found on the VX.

Was thinking something similar to the indentation around the front grill, approx 25/30mm with a slight taper..

However, having second thoughts about the vents in the rear clam, thinking of just cutting out the entire area and applying mesh over...

Rear diffuser is fixed to frame mounted to subframe so its not necessary to be there anymore (section of rear clam)

Anyway, to make my imagination a bit more clear, knocked up these on Sketchup...

Thoughts...Personally thinking it could look quite good...

So been wanting to get stuck into this for ages, and finally got around to making a start... Rear clam off, removed previous grills, roughly marked up area to cut out, got jigsaw out and zapped out the area required...

Posted Image

Below, shows it roughly placed on but not bolted on... When all sorted will removed heatsheild and put a layer of nimbus under boot and around the back of backbox...

Posted Image

Then, the awkward horrible rebuilding and trying to make a lip.. On the roof I had success with using foam and a semi plasticine mix.... Works alright to get a rough shape..

Posted Image

Then, applied fibreglass over... Once its dried, I will remove foam and plasticine mix and put a layer of fibreglass on the inside of the clam, sand through this existing layer and just generally get a nice decent finish and then trim to size... Thats the plan anyway...

Apart from that, put a Exige 2010 spoiler on the back, haven't got a decent photo, only this below. Looks pretty damn good I think, plus as the bootlid isn't convential as such I'm not restricted on location of the spoiler. Also put some of the little braces in as I'd seen someone else had done, to prevent  the 'wobble'.. Suprisingly easy to do, but quite painful drilling 2 holes into a brand new item!

Progress..

Bar a few little bits, I think its pretty much ready for a bit of vinyl...

Its pretty much exactly as the computer image, only thing I didn't really consider is how small the VSE in there looks - plus its a bit tatty - so that will need tidy up, but apart from that I'm pretty pleased...

There is a mesh across the rear - not sure if its visible on the photo's though....

I like the idea. Looks like it needs a bit of tidying. On the (albeit low res) pics it looks as though the fibre glass isn't quite straight nor the sam either side of the exhaust?

Good news!

Completion is nearing...... For a bit

Been busy past few days with filler and vinyl and made quite a lot of progress!

As can be seen, Vaux and Supercharged badges are back on! Milestone in my mind!

Few areas that need to be done with vinyl, and some that a bit w4nk and as anyone know whos tried to vinyl anything it can be the most rant :ffs: rant :ffs: rant :ffs:  thing in the world! But hopefully will be all done tomorrow!

Anyway, few quick photos... Is starting to look quite good i'm thinking!

I'm not entirely certain on it myself, thinking maybe a more spare pattern in the mesh...

I'm basically looking at what Lotus did with the S2..

Also, if nothing there leaves it all open to potential animals / wildlife / scumbags tinkering etc..

So its there atleast and I'm fairly happy with it... Vinyl looks a bit gash up close in some areas mostly a-ok...

It all the same shade, just the older areas are filthy and new area is spotless

Bonnet cover doesn't quite fit right as I slighly changed an area on the clam, but need to redo the whole cover so thats no problemo..

Not finished, but its the same colour for the first time in an absolute age so doesn't like quite so shite on the road atleast!

Fair play, lots of work involved in it - worth it in the end though.

Agree with the comments above about losing the mesh though.
