This was taken when mine snapped
You can see that its been on its way for a while that one. There's rust on the LHS where there must have been a crack and then you can see half-moon fatique marks where its cracked through. The big mark about 2/3 across looks like the point where it gave way. Quite worrying that.
ETA, not easy to spot on a visual inspection. Adds weight to the idea of treating toe links as a service item and swapping every year / couple of years.

Yes that rusty old crack could have been any size on a toe link even half way through or more and could snap any time. We had one snap on Nellys last Wales run at very slow speed and straight from what I remember. Very lucky it did not go at speed or on a fast bend. Nelly welded it up to get him home.

Forgot about that

That pours water on all the " it has to be under heavy load" quotes

I think most VXs sometime in their lives have span, which would stress wheel bearing and toe links etc.
Prev owners, first owners FREE track day with a new VX... and the (never tracked bollocks)

Mark
as a note....The free track day for first time owners didnt encompass using their own cars....... a VX was provide for the day which made it even more special as you could really push to the limits knowing it wasnt yours...oh and yes there were many spins by everyone as they were gently cohersed to going past the limit !!
What did happen to those cars...any old threads on their history and where they ended up after J Palmers Bedford Aerodrome?

It honestly has nothing to do with your age and despite everyone I have spoke to with a Vx having the same opinion as me I never wanted to bring it up. What's done is done and I'm glad you are safe. You provoked me in the other thread and I retaliated. Enjoy your slow Vx and buy a Volvo with TCGeorge I am over it FFS, just reporting on the fact I have had a couple of guys tell me they are convinced the toe link was the problem after seeing the car.I have watched Marks vid over and over, my car went much quicker and more violently,Mark was accelerating in a low gear, I was cruising in 5th at 55. I know you think I am to old to drive fast and should get a Volvo instead of the VX, but I can't see that happening for a while yetYou are never going to know now so get over it and just be happy your alive. It is more likely that you span the wheels up on a damp straight road than a toe link snapping on a smooth section of Tarmac in a straight line on a surface with poor grip. Surely the impact up the kerb is most likely. Reckon you know best from the way it let go.

feck me, only just seen this. Really glad you walked away Gordon with just a few cuts, could of been so much worse!!
Poor 41 :-( Havent seen her since James aka vx8 drove off in her 18 months ago. Made me shed a tear as i had so many great times with friends i met on here, meets, family, weekends away, trips to courtenay!
Couple of points: never touched the rear toe links in my 40k ownership. Did about a dozen track days, few sprints, walshy day. Never hit a kerb side on. Wheels had a couple of parking marks thats all. Obv. cant speak for CV8.
Dont forget charge cooler! Engine would be good always mobil 1, hot cams in it too!
