Folks,

I need your advice on installing my new 6 point harnesses in my VX.

1. Harness Bar is clear enough for the two upper seat stripes - OK

2. The remaining 4 should be fitted to the seatframe in my opinion to avoid any modification of the chassy. Can you post some pictures where I can see your solutions please?

Thanks!

I drilled and fitted mounting eyes for the mid ones and the centre one I put each strap around the side seat frame. The one all ready fitted had been drilled for eyes under the seat for the mid one , I just thought the seat frame would do for that one strap.

Thought you use these for the middle strap.

2 around the bar then 2 from current seat belt bolts.

No mine had plates with bolts with a loop on to clip the belts into for side and mid straps

Thanjs for your posts guys! I still think about the optimal solution, but these spreader plates look OK to use.

This is the actual state of my seat with the 6 point harness installed. I will be off for almost 2 weeks, so the harness bar will be installed only after my return...

Are you getting the seats slotted for the shoulder straps?

With no harness cutouts you might find belts dont fit as tight on shorter people. Make sure you get the bolt on bar if no cutouts

I am trying not to slot my seat as I like them as original as possible. However I must see how it will work out. I am quite tall (186cm), so should be OK.

On the other hand if it is a must to get a relieable fit I will go for these slot kits ~10 pounds for a set and get the seats slotted.

I know it is not the best solution ever, but this is the best I can do without major modifications.

The bar will definietly have some fixing points for the shoulder straps!

You should find them fine, as I have a bolt on type harness fitted with no cutouts and im 192cm.

I think you might find the only problem with the strap going to the chassis, as normally you would need a cutout in the lower part of the seat.

Yesterday I installed the harness bar as well! I am really close to be ready, however I have to redesign the lower back straps´ connection points to the seatframe.

Ooops - I can not upload pictures anymore! Why is that ? :)

You must have reached your limit. You need to upload them to photobucket and link them from there.

:yeahthat: I think you need to get a proper seat if you want a 6-point harness set up. Cutting multiple holes will only weaken the seat and you'll end up in a worse (ie less safe) position than just using a standard seat belt.

Guys, I just finished installing the harnesses and had a testdrive. Let me summarize:

- I did not do any cutout, however the bottom one that should prevent the submarine effect is not in the perfect position. As for the shoulder straps, well I am tall enough to keep my shoulders and not the seat (1,86m).

- I used extra reinforcement for the seatframe where the harnesses connect to it.

- I also have the harness bar installed properly as everyone else does.

I agree to the comments where people match a perfect harness to the perfect match, but for me as a hobbi driver on trackdays the present solution is a good value for money version that serves me well (hopefully for a long time)

While driving it holds you stiff in the seat and you can forget about grabbing the steering wheel and stiffen your legs to stay in the seat. On high speed corners you may miss the side support of your seat, but this is again another story.

On braking full power it also serves well.

I can hardly wait until March/April where the first trackdays start :)

I would NEVER use harnesses without seat cut outs!

I can't see it being a massive difference. If it all pulls up nice and tight then it's not that bad a job and is obviously far superior to a standard belt. Should work well enough and spread the load across nice wide belts. We have had a very high impact crash at the national with no harness with no major problem, would have been better with one I think and lucky for me I didn't have mine on in my bump so to say NEVER is a bit OTT .

Never because you are not held by the harnesses in the appropriate positions, the loadings are all wrong. It might seem ok with a drive but have a heavy impact and you will not be restrained.
