Sorry to see this - hope driver is OK and car isn't too badly damaged after all the time and effort that's gone into it!

:yeahthat:

Is the car repairable?

Yes its repairable, new clam will be with me at the end of the month, still a fair bit to do, but with the potential new aero regulations coming out for next year I would have to have made some changes to the car anyway so its not the end of the world, already done a few drawings of the changes that needed to be made so it will keep me busy over winter, then when i know the weather is better I can get the car back on track and get some testing done to make sure there arnt any more bugs.

That's great news.  After all the effort you'd put in I'd have hated to see it end badly.

Good news, am glad to see you are positive about it. After all it will give you something to keep you busy over winter and keep you out of mischief :)

Still in the process of fixing the damage at the moment.

Picking up a new front clam next weekend and a new motorsport chin spoiler one night in the week, since there are potentially new aero restrictions coming in next year I need to maximise the car to regs if I have any chance of keeping up with 550bhp rx7s

Most of it was cosmetic damage, but the one bit that annoyed me more than anything else was when the splitter impacted into the barrier it ripped sideways and as such ripped a chunk out of the crash structure.

So tonight I bonded and bolted a 3mm pure panel to the inside of the crash structure, made a mould of a 90 degree angle for the bottom, then put 5mm worth of carbon and kevlar on the outside, effectively rebuilding it all, its really cold at the moment so will probably take about 3 days to dry and set and then i will have to trim it down to the right shape but it should be stronger than it was before.

The next regs will be out at the end of next week I hope so then I can start to rebuild the rest of the car

Good to hear it's on the mend. Did you manage to get many laps in before the crash? Any representative times or data that give you an indication of how you were fairing against the competition?

actually only got 3 proper laps in total and it was a nightmare.

I had the car setup for the dry with aggressive springs and geo, it then rained 40mins before the start and I had to go for driver briefing etc so didnt get chance to make any changes at all.

The first lap my eye balls were sticking out of my head about 2 foot, I couldnt press the accelerator more than 30% and even that amount of throttle caused the car to snap sideways, so in the end I was literally rolling around the corners.

Second lap i went full throttle in 3rd gear in a straight line and as soon as it hit 3600rpm it spun the both wheels(atb diff) compared to being able to go full throttle in 2nd at snetterton while cornering and it didnt even give me a hint of traction loss.

Looking at the times I was on par with people in my group before going off, but the car was nearly undrivable, so on the lap i went off the circuit i was about 2secs up on my quickest lap so that would have put me 3rd in class, but the track was driving so i again would have been quicker than that towards the end of the session, purely from the track being better, but its all what ifs, without proof of completed lap times you never really know.

The winter im making alot of big changes, so sort out the problems I had on the day, from myself and the car, that way when cadwell comes I will be faster and less stressed.

Since I have to do everything on my own Ive decided to set the car up for the wet, that way if in the morning it rains I will be alot more confident to go out there and if its a dry day I can change the setup through out the day between sessions as i wont be chasing lap time in warm up session anyway so running softer setup will be fine.

You can see why they have teams of 4-5 even in the bottom class, makes it alot easier for the driver.

The car will also be lighter and hopefully have a wider power band with the changes i am making.

Bit of work today,

Trimmed my new front clam, so headlight, indicator, rear vents, excess lip on wheel arches and area around windscreen, then drilled on bolted the chin spoiler to it.
Posted Image

Not much ground clearance at the current ride height!
Posted Image

Also trimmed some off the diffuser to meet new regulations, tomorrow i will make new end fences for the diffuser to get it down to 40mm ground clearance, since its getting more restrictive im going to have to make max use of any opportunity to pull back what ive lost.
Posted Image

Also made a new roof, the old one was both sides glued together which weighed 8kg, this one is just the top side but with a panel glued on to allow the roof scoop to work properly, brings the weight down to 4kg, so a nice saving at the highest point on the car to help with centre of gravity

modified the diffuser further, going to maximise the 40mm static ground clearance rule to the max all around

Posted Image
Posted Image

after testing i will remake the diffuser in dibond I think as its cheap, light and stiff

But next im going to add some end plates back into my engine undertray and redesign my side skirts with what ive learnt(plus one is smashed up anyway)
