Wowsers. Is that of any benefit or just to maximise sponsor exposure? ;)

haha, sat and studied the cfd data and pressure plots on the wing before deciding the design and size, it should produce downforce more efficiently than before, at max angle it should produce around 220kg of downforce at 100mph, which the large endplates I should pick up roughly another 10%

Now I wont be able to make full use of max angle so it means I can run a lower angle than before while still hitting the downforce number I want but with less drag.

I suppose I will see if it was the case the first time im down the back straight of snetterton

Fitted splitter I made today, needs trimming still to make the 150mm limit and will give me a platform in which to design the rest of the front aerodynamics which at the moment is front diffusers with strakes, end plates and then if I can make it doable a front wing.

With this setup I dont need to unattach the tie bars every time I want to take the front clam off which was a pain to to last time

Can I just ask a question about the iso container ?

Is it possible to drive in to one  and open the door enough to get out ???

An ISO container is probably just big enough to get one door open if the car was fully to one side. You'd struggle to get in and out of it was in the centre.

If anyone would be willing to spare a few hours helping me I would be most grateful, its not easy doing it all on my own

Its not an ISO container, its a garage that is bolted together, they are common in the council estates of the midlands.

I think its about 2.8m wide so I can get in and out of the car when I park it in.

put the clam on today to mark everything up and trim it

Posted Image

Then pulled it off the axle stands and rolled it outside so I can look at it properly, this is with the splitter at 60mm ground clearance at the edge of the lip.

Posted Image

Tomorrow I will be marking and cutting it up to make the front diffusers, after that I need to finally confirm what else im going to do on the front to increase the downforce

made my front diffusers, marked out
Posted Image

set the angle at 10 degrees to the ground
Posted Image

fixings to maintain the angle
Posted Image

10mm aluminum plate turned up for making wing uprights
Posted Image

New lightweight brackets. Holds the wing, the exhaust and the oil catch tank. Managed to remove half a kilo from them aswell. Also you can see the multiple holes to allow me to send the wing further back if I want more downforce/better efficiency for trackdays
Posted Image

New lithium iron battery turned up from America today. Its made how small it is. Only weighs 1.3kg and will happily power my racecar. Picture next to a regular lead battery for reference
Posted Image

New wing upright design. Ill cut it out with the angle grinder in the morning
Posted Image

Operation front downforce part 2 is a go
Posted Image

Front end plates made. Just need to add footplates and put the vertical pieces back in after the paint dries

Having the weight of the std battery over the front wheels is not necc a bad thing

yep its a shorai, bought it from the US via ebay, took about 7 days to arrive, £160 to my door.

Getting closer to having the front end done aero wise now
Posted Image

Had a mess with my collection on canards and im going to go with one, so will pretty much look like this, all i have left to do is add my wheelarch vents and a few additions to the underside of the splitter
Posted Image

fitted my rear wing to see how the wing uprights are coming along, cutting out with angle grinder and a portable drill is hard work!! its already massively stiffer than the old uprights which is good news
Posted Image
Posted Image

made a pair of rear wickers to help reduce lift
Posted Image

also found more damage from brands

broke the steering rack casing and bent the track rod
Posted Image

also twisted a wishbone
Posted Image

The benefits of running an over the top exhaust continue as I can now run extra bracing between the wishbones, running the pair of braces I would think should help avoid any undue toe changes under heavy braking as alot more of it is tied together than before

Finally we though it on the scales to see how it was, it seems just like most people the old girl has put some weight on over xmas so at the moment its 720kg with no fuel, but also no undertray or diffuser, so with the lighter battery and roof and finish lightening the wing uprights it will be 710kg.

So after long thoughts and discussions I have decided to go intercooler route, with 2 four inch feeds running into a box to feed the intercooler, if I can manage the air flow and volume in the way I have it planned it will be work another 10kg and give engine cooling and reliability improvements

You have put in immense amounts of hard work & effort into this project. I take my hat off to you!

However, your best upgrade is yet to come....Start driving it in anger, confidence is 'king' & get some proper track tuition on improving your driving skills.

...Oh, also stay off the grass & kitty litter, as that excursion will not be pretty!

I'm looking forward to some video footage with your foot down & rev counter needle rebounding at the red end.

You are wasting your breath Max, this thread is full of almost identical comments which have been ignored. I've come to the conclusion that the OP is more of an engineer than a driver so prefers to be tinkering.

Steve,

I've been popping back to this thread on & off for the past ?#$%! expecting to see the car belting around a track in anger. It's getting a little tedious now. I hope when it does get on track, it gives a proper account of itself without disintegrating or the engine melting down.

OP its getting to the time now when the car should be approaching finish and you should be testing and getting lots of seat time in it building up gradually to your first event of the season. You must spend money and time getting track time in, its a false economy not to.

When is the next shakedown planned?

well since im working alot of hours and have my second child due at the end of the month who will need a big operation so time to finish things is getting harder. I still need to take the head off and do some work on the engine and then bolt the last of the aero on so it would be nice to finally get it back out in march. I have alot of things that take my time so there is only so much time and money I have to put towards fixing the car and getting it on track
