Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hopefully tinkering with the car get´s your mind off things.

There´s always next year for TA.

little bit more work done over the last week or so, fitted the front canards and got myself a nice little lotus badge
Posted Image

also decided to pull the head off so that i can get it ported, im sending the turbo off for a bigger compressor wheel aswell
Posted Image

im going to try and keep the same level of peak torque but with more power and a wider power band as at the moment my turbo runs out of puff at 6000rpm and power drops off so i change at 6500rpm, i would like to make peak power at 6500rpm which will allow to me to run to 7000rpm and hopefully give me a 3000rpm powerband.

Posted Image
One thing that was also interesting was when I pulled the head off it turns out im running simple trophy pistons and infact might be running 75 turbo rods, so I guess I might be the biggest power OEM component bottom end k series out there!

bonded in big head fasteners into my new roof, used structural adhesive, then overlayed them with kevlar and carbon fibre as a belts and braces to make sure there arnt any issues at high speed.

Confirmed old roof was 8kg and new roof is 4kg, which is a nice weight saving from the highest point in the car which can only help with COG

Also in the search for more power, more importantly a more efficient setup and hopefully a wider powerband ive had the turbo rebuilt with a bigger billet compressor wheel, a cosworth rear turbine housing and moving to a 3" exhaust which will exit behind the passenger side above the side scoop.

Posted Image
Posted Image

The plan is the big dramatic decrease in EBP should offset the larger wheels

Also ordered a full set of Paul Ivey 1mm oversized valves front and rear from Dave Andrews which will be with me next week, again more flow through the head, the more gas to help boost threshold.

Just had a look at my liners that are in the block at the moment and compared them to westwood and QED liners and it does seem like im running stock liners.

I wonder if they are holding together because of the low compression setup so my peak cylinder pressures are manageable.

only a tiny update while i had a spare hour this afternoon.

reinforced the engine cover in carbon to avoid potential issues with aerocatches pulling through
Posted Image

also measured up my new 3" side exhaust, works out i can fit a 5"x8"x18" muffler in there which has a similar volume as my old muffler so should hopefully be not a massive increase in noise, its currently 93db so would be happy at about 98db, will get one ordered some time this week

little update,

my turbo turned up and ive picked up a cosworth t3 rear housing, I went for this for a few reasons
Internally its flow paths are well designed and moves the downpipe further away from the bulkhead which gives me more clearance for a muffler. It also allows a 3" downpipe to be fitted, i wanted to move to a 3" setup and it would mean i would have to spend £200 on a 3" vband with internal gate.......im to tight for that.
Posted Image

my new muffler turned up, the same volume as the old one with read 93db at snetterton
Posted Image

ooooo shiny
Posted Image

mocked it all up and my measurements and design will work which is great news.
Posted Image

weighed it all including flanges and it weighs 5.75kg verses 11.5kg of my old one so thats a nice weight saving.

thats a side benefit though, the main benefit will be the increase in power from being alot more efficient, moving from 1.5m of 2.5" pipe with 3 90* bends and a 2.25"muffler to 200mm of pipe and a 3" muffler should wake the car up and help with spool a little.

oh yeh, front end is now all fully back together for the final time, cut my front clam vents in, seemed alot less scary the second time
Posted Image

now I just need to get the head back on the car and get it running to see what these improvements do for power

So the exhaust tip will be out the upper side of the clam? That's new! Might need some earplugs.

Best not get it mixed up with the fuel filler either.

Should run a twin exit and then feed them out through the buttresses, a la '918'.

Have you driven it this year?

drove it once just after I got the wheels pointing in the right direction, though it was cold and wet so was more to check over there wasnt any other damage.

Im hoping to have everything back together and on the road again for the end of the month, its only the exhaust and some wiring repairs left to do and it will run fine, the rear mounted intercooler wont effect it being driveable so thats a side project.

So the exhaust tip will be out the upper side of the clam? That's new! Might need some earplugs.

Well it shouldnt be any noiser to me that before as the driving experience noise wise is dominated with a turbocharger right behind your head, it might be a bit noiser for the passenger, but I have been pretty generous with the silencer so that it should be nicely under 98db all being well.

Should run a twin exit and then feed them out through the buttresses, a la '918'.

My first thought was simple 90* bend of the turbo vertically through the engine cover, ala honda turbo drag cars, but thought there will be times when i drive it on the road and dont want to park it up and come back to an engine full of water, I then thought about a flap like those big diesel trucks in america, but thought it might look a little silly.

The side exit was the next best scenario, ill be making a silenced version and a unsilenced version to see what the difference is, unsilenced would save about 3.5kg which would be nice, maybe for fun i might take it santa pod, 350bhp/700kg mid engined layotu should be pretty nippy up the quarter, should be mid 11s I would think

flange is now on the backbox now today ill trial fit it, just a hole in my clam and mock up a brace to take the weight off the head, also need to weld a lambda boss after the box.

double sleeved the tube on the turbine side, then peened it out for a good seal

and we have an exit point

I'm no expert, but are you going to proect the clam? Would have thought it would have got rather hot around there?

got the engine running, its a bit tappy from the top end but im guessing that will be because its going to take a bit of time to get oil into the lifters etc as the video is the engine running after about 20seconds.

Is this common when you have built the head up on a k series that it will be tappy at first?

https://scontent-lhr...3fa&oe=554BE70E

the exhaust isnt as loud as I expected which is good news, the tail pipe sticks out pretty far for the moment as still need to do a bit of testing with this setup before i trim it.

Also need to get a temp sensor for the ecu as the one on it is for a rover car and isnt the brown one.

Just need to finish the wing uprights and I can finally get it on track!!

Did you prime the lifters/followers? I suspect not as you mention time to get oil in the lifters

I didn't know how to or was aware I had to, I just built a head up but covered all the surfaces in oil before putting the followers into the head, is there a set procedure to do it? Will they self fill after a while?
