If someone went and got a rusty old morris minor, bolted Chinese copies of a front and rear end from a GP2 car, put them on with screws and cable ties. Then tried to drive it fast round a track full of other people, would they be pushing the boundaries and need to be applauded or is that dangerous?
In the US they even have a competition with those specific.
Actually. No.
The LeMons competition regulations do state that you can not spend more than $500 on your car and if the organisers suspect that more has been spent on the car they are allowed by the regulations to buy the car from the competitor for the $500 on the spot.
But.. And this is the crucial point.. This amount specifically *excludes* the amount spent on safety equipment like roll cages, harnesses, seats and other safety kit. You're allowed to spend as much as you want on that but they still have to pass scrutineering, so if you don't spend enough on that aspect or your car is deemed unsafe you won't be allowed to compete.
Bye, Arno.

You are way to serious Arno
Some fo the DF guys wanted to join the Dutch version, but struggled with a max laptime of 2 min 30 on CPZ.

Arno is a walking encyclopaedia!
Between Arno and FLD we definitely have 50% of the most knowledgeable/intellectual people on the planet.
I am genuinely astounded at least once a month by something posted by one of them... Either that or I am really thick and have a lot to catch up on.

Mike was doing under 1 min in good conditions iirc So where has this 2 seconds faster than mike come from?
Read over the last few pages, its talked about I think
Don't think it makes much odds anymore.
Big update by lee on the Seloc site.. fall off the bike, always best to get back on

He was doing a lot under 1 min in the dry (I believe about 53). Not sure about the 2 seconds however 1m 10s was in warm up and only six laps in on a track he hadnt driven before so it means nothing.

I'm appalled that he's still considering the events he has had so far to be unlucky. There's willful ignorance on show.

Looking at the way the roof melted down, that could easily have sealed the driver in position.
It is hugely sad what has happened and no-one would ever wish it upon him/you but to be reckless with a life in that manner when you have children that depend on you is just not right. You also endanger the people around you.
Lee, I understand you have great ideas on what you can do to achieve your goals and I applaud your tenacity but you need to look at your safety first. What if you weren't able to get out so quickly?
I suggest you take the precaution of insuring the car if you can't afford to lose it (providing it isn't already lost) and life insurance that covers what you are going to be doing (if available) so as not to leave your family high and dry if the worst were to happen in your pursuit of your hobby. You will receive negative comments on forums, that's the way it is.
Please don't take this as 'rubbing salt in the wounds' or an attack on you, it isn't. I'm indifferent about it unless it directly affects me or the people around me but you need to think of the people around you and that rely on you, not just the winning part.

Mikes fastest at Brands in 2013 was 51.951. Two seconds faster than that would be 49.9 which is just over 1 second slower than Platos BTCC car pole lap. Unless there is evidence to support the claim I am highly dubious.
