I am considering buying an OBDII or opcom device for the VX. I have researched this a little to check the difference between the two and the main difference seems to be that opcom allows management of the ABS, airbag, automatic transmission and immobiliser functions whereas OBDII does not.

However I have seen this on ebay:-

http://www.ebay.co.u...d=261296654080

It has 'ODBII' clearly printed on the plug but in the description claims to have all the functions stated above.

Is my understanding of opcom/OBDII wrong, has anyone got one of these and does it do all it claims?

The other thing that struck me that was it has 'Tech2' on the other side of the plug. I thought Tech2 was the all singing all dancing opcom device that was used by Vauxhall/Opel/GM themselves.

Cheers

That's an OP-COM. Get it, it's a cracking bit of kit, although ignore the disc you get with it and download the VX software from the VX wiki

Hmm. Good luck with that, I've never managed to get the shitty Hungarian TECH2 software to work with a TECH2 device, let alone get the OpCom software to work with a non-OpCom interface.

So do I.

OpCom software with an OpCom interface works a treat with the VX. TECH2 doesn't (unless you've got the genuine handheld GM TECH2).

Excuse my ignorance but am I right in thinking the main reason to get opcom is to see what fault codes mean, and then clear them? Any other great functions?

Sort of. Any OBD2 reader (be that a standalone handheld device, laptop software with a suitable interface or Scangauge type devices) will read and clear engine related faults. OpCom does that but also speaks to the airbag ECU, the ABS ECU and allows you to access the immobiliser and program new keys (or delete lost ones) and run some built-in test routines and throttle body recalibrations etc.
