Scratch that, Corbeau seats are still about £900 for the pair, then cost of trimming on top would be prohibitve.

Just too throw you further then Graeme, I'd say that I sit higher off the floor in my VXR than I did in a VX. & going back to my vx220 selling days, we had one or two vx220's where the standard drivers seats were hitting the headrest, I'm sure that the workshop used to modify rather than replace parts to correct this. I'd describe it as a not quite fit rather than a won't fit! Harks seats are quite different in the sides & lower down to my VXR seats.

Thanks   :D   So what it sounds like, is typical Lotus manufacturing. Be interesting to compare VXR seats to one another, as Ghand's seem to be inches and inches off the headrest, while you seem to be saying that others fouled them.   Much though I think those headrest parts are important, especially after my accident, I suspect that for the right seats I'd be happy to do a Vocky (I think it was Vocky) mod to them to make them fit. Happy to mod the centre console too as I'll be retrimming that I expect anyway.   G
Graeme, you've misunderstood me. No VXR seats fouled the headrest, they were no where near, some (OK at least 2) VX seats (VX220 not VXR220) were fouling the headrests whilst being checked over in the dealership that I worked for

I'm sure that my cars seats are identical to a 340R that I've been in, a little bit more of a cuddle around the hips & bit less behind your head compared to the newer Lotus seats. But like I've said before you definitely sit higher in them

You're right, I did misunderstand you...

So standard Vx220 seats fouled the headrests. Are we talking about them fouling the bit of the headrest cover that sticks out then? That really does sound strange, talk about lotus like manufacturing tolerances! :D

So Lotus (as in Lotus UK Plc rather than a dealer) tell me they're not able to sell me an Exige seat

"we cannot retail Exige seats for a VX220 for safety reasons. We can investigate some availability of replacement VX220 seats, although contractually you would need to buy these through Vauxhall, but we can certainly tap up our contacts to see what might be achievable."

I have a feeling that tapping up Vxl won't do much, but I may as well let them try and see if anything comes of it - though the only seats I'd want would be the VXR spec - just not in red.

VXR seats are something ridiculous like £2k+ each from Vauxhall. Good luck with that.

Makes DTT look cheap.

As said, not expecting anything to come to fruition this way Matt, but as someone else is doing the donkey work...

& yet a long time ago, in the early days of .org & before the vxr220 a member called PaulB took his 2.2 to Lotus Sport & they fitted seats & a harness bar! GaryK had something done too, just can't remember if it included seats

Face it. If you want upholstered seats and a set of suitable Exige seats don't come up (for the £1-£1.2k that they seem to fetch on SELOC), you're into a something like £1.8k for some new seats trimmed to your requirements. Be they OEM Exige carcasses, Reverie/Hangar111 carcasses, Corbeau carcasses and even whatever the conmen at UK Lotus Centre keep knocking out as "Lotus seats", trimmed to suit. I've been going over and over the same equation for the last 5 years and that's why I still have standard seats (albeit two pairs of them  ). It's also why the aftermarket GRP seats always look like such an attractively priced option. At least until you see them and feel how weedy they are in reality and realise £150ea doesn't actually buy much in the way of structural integrity.

Yep. They fitted some 340R seats for him with a harness bar. It's the same with the Exige/Elise 4-channel ABS ECU though. Lotus plc reckon it doesn't work and can't work and for legal reasons can't countenance it being fitted. Yet they conveniently forget they fitted the exact same one to the VXR220. :beat:

Just ask for exige seats for your exige.  Surely that'll work.

Not every VXR had red in the seats, Mani's Yellow VXR had plain black & the Coral Blue VXR had blue where mine were once red. Now there's an idea, you get red from Lotus Graeme & I'll swap you for my use to be red :P

As a man who'd be having the red retrimmed, then that could work - I have your red sections retrimmed in whatever I want and you get nice new factory fresh crimson for your car. However, I excpect like Matt says, the price will be prohibitive.

Looks like I'll be trying to organise a group buy with Composite Worx at this rate.

I spoke to them a few months ago, and they are happy to do it - but ideally we'd need between 6 and 10 pairs of seats for it to work. Though even 2-5 pairs would get 10% off. Problem is they aren't exactly cheap to start with, so it represents a fair amount of investment for a lot of people.

Problem is I was hoping to wangle some decent discount, through my PR contact, as I expect the full price will be quite prohibitive. Might see what Paul at CN can do - btw is it pronounced McSteeeeen or McStine?
