Interesting reading The fronts are brilliant especially braking and turn in (595s) but I'm not convinced by rears especially traction

the 225/45 is narrower , if you put them side by side
Will check sizes when I get home can't remember, It was a year ago

225/45/17 tread widths R888 8.7"

RS-R 8.1"

Ahh I understand now Maybe I should get 888s for the rear and RSRs for the front

I too want tyres for my new DTC wheels and the RSR's are starting to look better with each page of comments.

Any more feedback to tip me over the edge and away from 888's.

I'll be looking for road/track tyres in the new year I found this tyre comparison - it rates the 595RSR close to the R888, but both some way from the top of the list. However, it may not be all that useful - the sample sizes aren't that large for msot of the tyres:

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre-Type/Passenger-Car-Summer-Trackday-and-Competition-Tyres/]trackday tyre review[/url].

I think the opinions of other VX drivers are more useful than an anonymous survey, so I'll be going for... hmm, I'll decide after Christmas.

Also factor in the weight of our cars compared to the heavier 'passenger' cars. ;)

Would the RSR 255/40/17 fit on our cars? Or is that over the top? Thinkin of a 215/40 and 235/40 combo... but 255/40 would supply even more traction I reckon?

(future 2.2 turbo).

Good thread.

The new compound Yoko Ad08R are another option. Need 2nd track day to be sure but seem v.similar to Rsr/888 in cold damp conditions, at least as good in deeper puddles on road as V70 mediums I ran last yr, and in dry allegedly close to 888 but I'll post result if trackday 8 Dec is dry.

Avon ZZR is very much like the 888 it seems, whereas the RSR has some higher level of all weather road use abilities it seems due to greater tgread depths etc.

So at the mo, the 595 RS R's arent looking too bad, so on the 17's all round we would be looking at  -235 40 17 with 205 40 17 fronts, though mytyres only showed the 215 40 17 fronts. I'm sure 215's would be too wide for the front though as my 195 888's rub.

We faced the same problem, but the thread width of a 215/40/17 RSR is the same or even narrrower than a 205/40/17 888...

(So effectively that makes it a 205/42.5/17 size tire.  Perfect!)

Has the issue with the Federal been sorted ?

There were some cracks reported in the past. Many cases, look on the net.

Funnily enough, I noticed some similar cracks in both my rear tyres last night actually, they are one 1 track day and 3000 miles old.  Was there a recall on them?

thats normal , the tyres are either made in a 2 piece or multi segment mould look closely and you can see the letters SEG6
