My RSRs did the cracking thing....also Neil's FZ201s have done it (500bhp mazda on 225 front/255 rear 17s)
Actually the RSRs were rigfht across the tread whereas the FZs were mostly on the shoulders.
Never worried me particularly.

I think a part of my poor rear wheel traction could be down to my setup, I have a lot less toe and camber compared to GBC Also the stage 3 in front has a LSD which may also make it look as if have poor speed out of cornersAgain some proof, that theres nothing fundamentally wrong with the federals. My main concern on track would be when theyre new as they have a lot deeper tread than 888's to start with. Guess I'll just have to wear them donw as fast as possible! Martin s

Mates brothers Caterham runs Avon ZZRs. Frickin grippy even cold. Remember him trying to do a "3-point-turn" in France on a quiet road and trying to do it in 1 half donut. Couldn't even light the rears
He has an R300 superlight. I didn't know you could get them in our sizes?

Can he get me a free set of zzr's to try?My brother in law designs tyres for Avon, so can ask him about the tyre split marks if anyone's interested?

ZZR's have been the control tyre for the Lotus Cup UK & Europe for the last 18 months. So, yes, available in our sizes (as long as we're not talking the super skinny standard fronts).

ZZR are amazing tires, better than R888 and A048 in my (and many other who tried them) opinion.

I think the smallest section width they do in 17" is 215, so 215/40x17 Front with a 235/40X17 rear
Posted 11 December 2013 - 09:12 AM
mytyres out of stock of the 235/40/17 at the moment , usually ~£86

Would the 215/40/17 be the most suitable for standard sized fronts? and stick to 225/45/17 on the rear?
Really don't want to go 16/17's unless I got lotus hubs and that's not going to happen for sometime. Avons or RSR's are sounding tempting...

On standard fronts? no, 195's is about as good as you get and thats a compromise on the standard J wheel
Posted 11 December 2013 - 11:15 AM
No no no no. Way too wide for the stupid 5.5" width standard wheels. 195's are too wide, though some people manage to squeeze them on and haven't died yet.Would the 215/40/17 be the most suitable for standard sized fronts?

195s are fine on standard, have been using them for ages, many many track days and they are still on the wheels.

Sorry misread this ^^
Looks like the Bridgestones will be staying on and saving pennies.
Anz, is that standard front next to a 195?
195 is 'apparantly' the maximum size. Maybe I should just say sod it and get td's

no thats next to a 215/40X17 (which ive just fitted to the rim to illustrate what youd end up with and why its not the best idea unless you want a really good rim protector lol)
I dont stock any 195/45X17 so cant show you a comparison of that unfortunately
